this little leaf in you shirt. That's all! I promise" He sneered as he
approached the range where Annonak could see and identify the plant in
Naris's hand.

"Oh great! Now he's discovered poison oak!" Annonak thought dejectly.
"If only he would disappear!"

For a moment, time seemed to slow to a crawl as Naris slinked toward the
fallen Annonak, the boys holding him laughing with a mixture of glee
and malice. Naris was right above Anno when he began to sense
something. He couldn't quite feel it, it was more like he sensed some
sort of presence there. He closed his eyes, not wanting to see the look
of triumph that was inevitable. Resigned to his fate, he laid still,
anticipating the feel of the leaves being shoved down his clothes. It
never came.

After about 30 seconds, he opened his eyes, expecting to see Naris's
face glaring at him in preparation, or laughing in expectation. What he
actually saw scared him more. There was nothing over him. Naris and his
goons had simply disappeared. "What happened? Where are they?" He
wondered in amazement as he glanced around himself, looking for any
sign of their escape. To his obvious shock, there was, without a doubt,
no sign that they had ever been there. Stunned, Annonak rose to his
feet. He bent down, grabbed his things, and hurried into the school
building, not wanting to be late.

The memory, now finished, returned to the depths from which it came.
Annonak slowed his pace slightly and began to listen. Unbeknownst to
him, the Hunters had stopped running after him halfway through his
memory. His sense of hearing, enhanced by his magic, detected no sounds
near him, his sense of smell found only the scent of the forest itself.
Finally feeling safe, his body began its final motions.
