She is lovely and sweet and knows all the words she makes the old
seagoat think of bees and birds (?)

He is demented, but she is cemented; in his heart

He knew from the start,

she was for him,

even though he is dim,

the old seagoat is crazy for the far off north lady

Riggs softly snoring away on her lap, she sips her water, as she recalls
something else Lee wrote her sharing his deepest thoughts and touching
her own thoughts, exposing the soul of thier relationship.

I love you to the bottom of my soul. we met through words from far away,
our silent thoughts exposed in time;

How did this all happen?;

When did it begin? How did we know to find each other;

Have our souls meet time and time again ?

With each word and letter, with every single line; I find my heart is
filled, and your passion burns in my mind;

you have reached me when I needed you so; gave me love, I thought I
would never know; a gentle, sweet feeling,

I have searched Through space and time; through ages past; this gentle,
sweet love ;

I know it will always last, forever

Karen hugs her teddy bear that Lee had sent her, and new tears form in
her eyes she calls out "Oh Lee, I love you so much... " Wiping her
eyes, she reflects on how her own stupidity and lonliness almost lost
him, vowing to herself and to God, that nothing in this world would she
ever let someone else use her vulnerability again.

Karen had made many friends online prior to talking with Lee. One of
which was a girl named Cristina. Cristina lived on the Gulfe of
Mexico, and became a good friend to karen, much like Josie and Carrie.
Josie herself had been going through some major ups and downs in her
own relationship with her and Mike fighting, and for Josie it was time
for her own move. Josie had kept in contact with Karen in emails but
was never online any longer.

Cristina and Karen talked about thier lives, and things that they have
gone through.

Cris - " Well when y'all gonna come and visit?"

Karen - " Well, I don't know but that seems like a good plan. Lee is
busy with work and we can't seem to connect on a date for him to come
visit.

Cris - "Really????? Are you really sure about this guy? I mean you
know that people can be who they want to be on here. Women get sucked
in ............."

Karen dreaded talking with Cris at times as she always went negative
about Lee. Most of the time she shrugged off what Cris was saying but
lately her own questions started to arise about why Lee hasn't come to
her numerous requests. It was always work related or the kids. She
thought to herself, "If only he'd ask me to come to him to meet"

Cris continues on in her lecture breaking into Karen's thoughts -
"Karen... you with me? I said why don't you and Blaze come out here
for a visit? You and Blaze need a break, maybe you can put things into
perspective for yourself, and it would be great for a holiday for you
and Blaze... PLEASE??????"

Karen - " Well you know, maybe we will, I think perhaps a holiday would
be good for us, plus Blaze would enjoy it"

Blaze had gone through some rough times over the past few months and
recently had cracked his radial bone in his wrist resulting in a cast.
A holiday seemed like a good idea.

Lee was disappointed when Karen told him that she was going to Texas for
a holiday with Blaze but understood and was happy for her in a way, but
hurt although he did not say anything.

Karen and Blaze arrived in Houston and was met by Cris and her brother
Matt. Matt was a nice looking fellow at 6'4, dark hair and eyes,
younger than herself by a year, Cris and her brother didn't look too
much like one another but their personality and competitive nature of
siblings were significantly evident. The quartette got along
immediately and they went to the island on which Cris and her brother
lived.

Karen was amazed at the surroundings, the ocean was beautiful and the
weather was something that she discovered she could get used to
considering. Cris had to work for most of Karen's visit and she found
herself thrust into more of a visit with Cris' brother and his friends.
Karen wondered if Cris had ulterior motives to her invitation for Blaze
and Karen to come visit.

One evening Matt held a house party, all his friends, sister and Karen
and Blaze. They sat talking and visiting. Matt went to put his 4 year
old son to bed as the party continued on. Blaze settled in to play a
video game and Karen silently went off towards the beach and walked
along the shore. Karen found a nice spot and sat on the sand watching
the waves as they rolled towards the shore. Her eyes misted up as she
thought about Lee, and wondered what he was doing.

Matt had come out of the bedroom and looked around the room noticing
Karen had disappeared. His thoughts had taken him back to when he
first heard about Karen from his sister. He couldn't believe the
picture that Cris had shown him of this canadian beauty and had
desperately tried to get his sister to invite her out. Matt felt a
little guilty at the deception but he wanted to win this woman over no
matter what the cost. Matt always got what he wanted when he wanted it
and when he seen Karen and her son in the customs area, his heart beat
wildly. He went to Blaze and asked him where his mother went off to
knowing that she would tell Blaze alone where she went.

"Uh, I think she said she was going to the beach," said Blaze as he
battled the characters on the game. Matt ruffled Blaze's hair and he
went to the balcony and looked out towards the beach. He saw her
sitting on the shore facing the waves, and he thought to himself " no
time like the present to make an ass of myself". Matt walked towards
Karen quietly listening to the waves break against the shore. He heard
her soft whimpers as he got closer to her.

"Karen?", he asked softly, " you okay?" knowing full well her mind was
elsewhere and that he had his job cut out for him to woo her over.

"I'm sorry Matt, I didn't want to ruin your party, so I decided to come
out here, I needed some time to think about Lee and I" said Karen. She
resented Matt's intruding on her private thoughts but at the same time
wanted company. She felt guilty at having doubts about Lee, and thier
relationship.

Matt felt himself get angry but controlled himself. He was angry at
Lee, part of him thinking that Lee was stringing this girl along. He
sat beside Karen in silence stewing about the whole thing, wondering if
he had a chance with Karen. Karen wiped her eyes, again glancing at
Matt through the corner of her eyes. Karen liked what she saw in Matt,
feeling guilty for thinking that Cris had ulterior motives in inviting
her down.

Matt, I just want to thank you for being so good to Blaze and I while we
are here. I mean if I knew that Cris was going to be working most of
the time I wouldn't have come. You've been very nice about
entertaining us. You don't have to put yourself through too much
trouble on our account. Blaze and I can ............. started karen
awkwardly

Matt turned and glared at her, " Damn it Karen, ever since you came out
here I've been watching you, matt looked out towards the ocean, and
continued to voice his thoughts. Cris told me all about you and Lee,
he's not real, if he was, he'd have met with you already. He's playing
games Karen with you Karen can't you se that?"

Karen's mouth dropped, her eyes filled with tears. What Matt was saying
had hit her hard for these very thoughts she had also entertained in
her mind but kept them at bay. Its wrong, he's wrong she thought to
herself. Karen began to cry.

Matt closed his eyes, "Damn, he said to himself and pulled Karen into
his arms hoping she wouldn't push him away. He stroked her hair and
rocked her in his arms until her tears subsided. He kissed the top of
her head, as he felt her tremble in his arms.

"karen, he said softly, I'm sorry I shouldn't have said what I did. Its
just......"

"Its just what Matt? she questioned as she looked into his eyes

Matt looked into Karen's eyes searching for any indication of what her
feelings towards him may reveal, "Its just that I am here Karen, I am
here and now, I like you, I like your son. It just makes me angry that
Lee hasn't made any attempt in a over a year to see you, I mean if you
to are a couple you should have met already shouldn't you."

Karen was a little floored as Matt stated how he felt. Part of her knew
that Matt had an interest in her, but she knew that nothing could
transpire because of her relationship with Lee. What frightened Karen
the most was part of what Matt said was true, Lee never seemed to be
able to get together with her when she asked about meeting him.
Guiltily Karen begun to think what a relationship with Matt would be
like.

Karen after spending time with Matt noticed that he was happy go lucky.
He was a fire fighter, he was divorced with a small son. He did appear
to have a dark moody side but he softened up when he talked about his
son, his family. Karen did compare the two men both Lee and Matt. She
knew Matt was right that he was real, and she seen for himself what he
was like where as with Lee, she always wondered how he was with his
children, how he was with friends, and most importantly what he would
be like with Blaze.

Karen allowed herself to get caught up in the island, and as she spent
time with Matt and Cris, she began to enjoy and envy thier closeness.
Deep down Karen feared what she would say to Lee when she returned for
he was the one she felt she would be with always, and now she doubted
that they would ever meet. Cris and Blaze spent some time together as
Matt invited Karen out on the town with him. They went down the strip
from one point of the island to the other. karen in awe of the beauty
of the ocean against the sunset. They went for dinner and went for a
walk on the beach.

Matt shyly took her hand, his heart beating fast as he half expected her
to pull it away. Karen was caught in the moment and allowed Matt to
take her hand. He pulled her to his side, putting his arm about her.
Together they stopped and turned to watch the sun as it sunk below the
horizon. Matt looked down at Karen, tilting her face upward towards
his, he lowered his lips to kiss her. Karen's heart beat wildly...
"OMG, what am I going to do", she thought her body responded to Matt's
as he pressed her into him showing his desire for her.

The day before Karen and Blaze were to leave, Matt brought Karen coffee
into the bedroom where she was packing their belongings.

"Karen, what are you going to tell him?", asked Matt quietly.

" I don't know Matt, the truth, that I met you and we hit it off I
suppose, what else can I tell him." sighed Karen.

"Karen, I know you think about him, I just want a chance, I know that I
will never be the one to occupy your whole heart, I know he has
shared with you things that I can't imagine, I just ask that we try, I
want this Karen, More than anything" Matt said earnestly.

As Blaze and her boarded their flight, Karen sat in her seat, her
sunglasses perched on her nose hiding the tears forming in her eyes,
dreading the email that she knew she would have to write to Lee.
Exhausted when they got home Karen and Blaze crawled into the house.
She checked her messages to find one from Matt. "Hi honey, hope you
made it home okay. I'll talk with you tomorrow."

Karen shook her head sadly as she recalled Lee's reaction to her news.
He didn't take it very well but then who would. Karen was angry at
herself for hurting Lee, but she made her bed once again and was going
to lay in it. As the days went on, Lee disappeared. Matt emailed her
daily and met up with her online and on the phone. Karen noticed more
and more Matt's moodiness. He vented about his bills and getting
behind, he was waiting for an answer from the Fire department on his
status, things just weren't going his way and he took it out on Karen.

Karen became a shell within herself, she was angry at Matt, at herself.
Her friends in the city Allison and a long time friend Dave tried to
pull her out of her misery. Getting her out of the house and doing
things that she did before. Karen finally relented, and accepted the
invitations out with her friends. Karen knew that she made a mistake
with Matt and recognized that she was sinking fast and needed to "suck
it up" and get back on her own two feet again.

Karen continued to email Lee despite his reluctance to respond. Karen
felt a deep loss without Lee to talk to, and missed him severly. Karen
kept her emails to Lee simple, letting him know he was in her thoughts
always, and that she was sorry. She updated Lee on her life, how it
was going and questioned though knowing he wouldn't reply how he was
holding out. Karen sighed and hit send on her finished email to Lee.
She sat infront of the computer and to her surprize Lee responded to
her email.

Karen sat at her computer waiting for a reply, she knew that he was at
his desk by the immediate email he sent to her, again he responded
immediately sayin that he would meet her later that evening as he had a
class to instruct shortly. Karen smiled with relief and shut her
computer down until she would talk with Lee that evening.
