Recalling the cats that have been my owner. | |||
Click here to read the first 75 lines of the story Timmy's most memorable exploit occurred on a hot summer night when I was about eleven. Apparently Timmy got the hunting urge and wandered down to her favorite hunting spot, a small brook near our house. After catching a small green frog, she decided to bring it home to her "family". For some reason rather than come in my window as she usually did, she climbed the tree by the front porch and went in the window to my parents' bedroom. Because of the hot weather, my mother had on a thin rayon nightgown and was sleeping without any covers over her. Timmy hopped up on the bed and deposited a wet, still squirming frog smack in the middle of my mother's stomach. The resulting scream even woke me up. We got screens shortly after that. At this moment there is a tiger and white ball of fluff perched on my shoulder that seems to be asking "What do you mean your favorite cat?" "Who are you talking about if you don't mean me?" Sorry about that Tinker. Enosburg Falls, Vermont May, 1993 Authors Note: While Cali and Tinker are no longer with us, our family would be incomplete without at least one feline member. Our latest cat is Mordecai (Hebrew for little which no longer fits.) "Mo" has 5 toes on each foot and since we have moved to Florida we have learned that he is a "Hemingway." Apparently Ernest Hemingway was fond of 5 toed cats and always had several of them around. They can still be found in his former home in Key West. Palmetto Florida August, 2000 Tweet
