But notice this, also: what interests me, what fascinates me, above all
else, and yes, in connection with this, are human beings.  That I do 
not believe in God is actually a wonderful thing, I think.  Because all 
of the beauty of the world, all the amazing and wondrous things that we 
as human beings have done - it's ALL within reach. 

There are days when I am reminded of the Holocaust, of the Crusades, of
wars and murders, of injuries and tortures, of slights and injustices, 
of terrors and horrors and the atrocities that human beings have 
committed against themselves, against the Earth, and against their 
fellow human beings.  How tempting it is, then, to thrust the 
responsibility for these acts upon the concept of ‘evil', upon some 
transcendent Devil.  Yes, I know, I've got it slightly backwards.  God 
is good, and all that we do that is good is due to, and thanks to, ‘the 
grace of God'.  And, since God is good, evil cannot come from God.  
Leaving aside the ‘Devil', evil must come from human beings.  Well, 
WHY?  I will search the world for someone who can answer this question. 
 We are human beings, and all that we are, all that we do, is our very 
own responsibility.  For every choice I have made or will make, for 
every action I have ever done or will do, for every act of love or 
anger, I am wholly and solely responsible.  I, the human being, the 
woman, the daughter, sister, friend, lover.  I, the niece, cousin, 
aunt, granddaughter.  I, the human being.  The prophet.  The 
philosopher.  The writer.
