Click here to read the first 75 lines of the story `Oh no, here we go again.' Dee remembered having the same dream last night of trying to sing a song and each time she opened her mouth to sing - sweet tasting musical notes came out (that you could really see), but no sound. When Mrs. Banks came to wake Dee up that morning - she discovered Dee's mouth filled with chocolate ice cream. Mrs. Banks became quite worried. Miss Belle came over to sit again. Dee heard Miss Belle and her mother talking outside her bedroom door. "Well, maybe I should buy pudding and ice cream and just eat it all. Maybe, then it will stop. You know how I'm always dieting and sometimes I keep sweets out of the house. Maybe, I just need to eat a bunch of that stuff with Dee. It's worth a try." Miss Belle laughed her sweet, bell-like laugh. "Well, I doubt if Dee will want to see any pudding or ice cream for awhile. Let's see if later this morning, the problem solves itself. At least, for the rest of the day." And sure enough, at 11:30 that morning, the problem solved itself. At least, for the rest of the day. On Day Three - Dee woke up with pudding in her mouth. Again, the night before Dee dreamed she was a singer who could not sing, only the sweet tasting musical notes came out (that you could really see). This morning, Mrs. Banks and Miss Belle were both pacing and wringing their hands. Mrs. Banks used her paper cups to get rid of the pudding and Dee swallowed. Dee could talk if she wanted to. For once, she didn't feel like it. By 11:30 that morning, again, the problem solved itself. At least, for the rest of the day. On Day Four, Dee woke up with pudding in her mouth. She was kind of hoping for ice cream, but was getting sick of both. Mrs. Banks and Miss Belle continued to watch over Dee. At 11:30 that morning, the problem solved itself. At least... "Okay, Miss Dee, it's time we got to the bottom of this. You say in your dream each night, you are a singer who cannot sing - only sweet tasting musical notes come out that you can actually see. Do you like to sing, Dee?" "No, well I sing, but I can't really sing, Miss Belle. It's strange that I'm a singer who cannot sing in the dream." Dee giggled. "Or maybe, that's a good thing." Miss Belle smiled a bright smile. "Well maybe, just maybe, you aren't doing something that you really want to do, and, maybe your being a singer in the dream is just some sort of symbol. So tell us Dee, what is it you really want to do?" Dee smiled a tiny smile. "I want to write stories that make people smile." Then, she suddenly grew sad. "But, I just can't seem to anymore." "Yes, that's true. Dee used to write wonderful stories. Shortly after her father and I divorced, she just stopped. I tried to encourage her as much as I could. She just wasn't interested anymore," Mrs. Banks explained. Miss Belle gave Dee an understanding smile and sat down next to her on the bed. "Dee, honey. I just know God has given you a special gift and I'm just sure it's meant to be used. Tonight, I want you to do something for me. I want you to write a story before you go to bed." "What will I write about?" Dee asked sadly. "Oh Dee, you could write your story about the day you woke up with pudding in you mouth. I believe that would make one terrific story! Dee, God has a story for you to tell to make people smile. And I just bet when you write that story, it's going to make you feel so happy and full that your mouth won't have to be overflowing with sweet tasting things. Well, only when you want sweet tasting things." Miss Belle laughed her sweet, bell-like laugh. Mrs. Banks smiled, excited for Dee. "Dee, that's a wonderful idea. Please try, sweetie, and let's see what happens." "Okay, Mama. I'll try," Dee said with a smile. So that night before Dee went to sleep, she wrote a story about a girl who woke up with pudding in her mouth. The girl was a lot like Dee. The funny thing was, Dee did not have the dream of being a singer who could not sing. The most wonderful thing was, although she did like pudding and chocolate ice cream, Dee woke up free of both. Dee jumped up out of bed and ran to her mother's room. "Mama, look. No pudding. No ice cream. See?" Mrs. Banks laughed and hugged her daughter. "Dee, I'm so happy. Do you think writing your story helped?" Dee went back to her room and brought her story to her mother. "Mama, I do think I have a story that will make people smile. Will you read it?" Mrs. Banks read Dee's story. When she finished reading, Mrs. Banks had the prettiest, biggest smile on her face. "Dee, this is a really good story." Mrs. Banks called Miss Belle to tell her the good news. "Mama, can we have Miss Belle over for our Saturday night dessert? I want to thank her for helping us." "We sure can, Dee, and you can have anything you want," Mrs. Banks said. Dee smiled. "I just don't want any pudding or chocolate ice cream. Okay?" THE END Tweet
