Brenda recieves a rose from a mysterious stalker but when she goes to camp, the giver becomes known and a malicious chase begins. | |||
Click here to read the first 75 lines of the story going to senior camp this year? I am and I know that Tyson is," Jack said with a note of teasing in her voice. "Great, yeah, I'm going. How is Tyson? I haven't been able to see him for quite a while," Brenda had a huge crush on Tyson. "Oh, he's doing just swell though he has asked around for you," Jack explained. "Has he really? I mean, that's nice. What did you say?" her heart was beating with excitement. He had noticed that she was gone and wanted to know where she was. How sweet! "I told him the truth. That you had gone on vacation and that you missed him dearly. I also told him that you could hardly wait till camp so that you could see him. That is why I called so as to verify that you were going to camp and that I hadn't lied to him," Jack responded. "How could you do that? How am I going to face him now? Oh my gosh, I am not going to look him in the eye, you bimbo," Brenda gasped out. How embarrassing! "Well, I was just trying to help you out," her friend laughed heartily. "Well, please don't help me out. What did he say?" she was dying to know. "Cool, tell her that I am looking forward to seeing her too," she replied. "He really said that? Oh wow, I think I am in heaven. So how long before camp?" Brenda giggled. Two weeks later, it was time for church camp. Brenda arrived with her church, laughing, and playing around. As soon as they got there, Brenda saw her best friend, Jack, and split. Jack's real name was Carmelia but she had acquired the nickname when she was four. The two hugged each other then stood apart. "Did you get any more roses?" Jack asked Brenda. Her eyes were filled with curiosity. "No but for pete's sake, one rose was more then enough," Brenda laughed. Though she laughed about it, her heart was still filled with misgivings about not telling her dad but he would have freaked if he had found out that someone was in her room without either one of them knowing. "Look there is Tyson," Jack poked Brenda in the ribs. Brenda blushed and pushed Jack, but then turned to watch Tyson. He was tossing a football with two of his friends, Tom and Luke. Tyson was heavily into football but he was unlike other jocks. He was so sweet, helpful, and funny. Brenda just sighed as she watched him catch the football and toss it back. "Have you seen your sweet hunk, David? Oh wait, he only comes to winter camp, never mind," she teased Jack and got a smack over the top of her head in return. Suddenly she was shoved down to her knees. Anger flooded her senses and she couldn't believe someone would be so rude as to push her down. "Oh... I am extremely sorry," a tan hand reached down to help her up from the ground. She refused it and climbed up by herself. Anyone who pushed her down was not to help her up. When she looked up, she found herself lost in an ocean of blue. Brenda shook herself and looked at the boy standing in front of her. He was very cute and was carrying a large suitcase, but he was nothing compared to Tyson. "I am really sorry and let me introduce myself. I am Brady," he gave her the most cutest smile. He really wasn't that bad looking and he had manners. This made up for him shoving her down since it was accidental. "My name is Brenda," she replied and in her mind said, "Boy, are you fine!" "Are you all right?" he asked. She slowly nodded her head. He smiled, gripped his suitcase tighter, and took off towards a cabin. He didn't even say good-bye. She turned back to watch the game of football, more specific, Tyson. Tyson yelled her name, winked at her, and threw the football at her. She ran to her right and caught it. She winked back at him and threw it to him. "Did you see that? He winked at me," Brenda squealed with excitement to Jack. "See, are you still irritated that I told him you missed him and wanted to see him?" she wanted to know. "Not anymore. I am so glad that we are here. I was worried and upset but there's nothing like a little Tyson to soothe your nerves," Brenda sighed. "Okay, whatever. Oh look there's Beverly and Amanda. Hi guys, waz up?" Jack ran over to the two best friends and high fived them. Brenda followed suite and they all hugged each other. "So how are you, Brenda? We haven't seen you for a while," Beverly gushed. "I'm doing swell and you two?" she replied with relish. "Oh we're doing fine. Amanda has a boyfriend," Beverly grinned and Amanda blushed. "He's more like a really awesome friend. We both love softball and baseball and we've got so much in common," Amanda chattered, a sweet smile on her lips. "How cool! You all know who I wish was my boyfriend," Brenda chuckled. "Geez, I wonder who. Could it be that handsome fellow playing football over there?" Beverly teased. "I don't know who you're talking about," Brenda giggled and Jack just rolled her eyes. "Hi guys, how are you doing?" Shelby, another one of their friends smiled as she walked by. "Hi Shelby, we're all superb," Beverly waved to their brunette friend. "Great, me too. See you all later," and the girl walked on towards her cabin lugging several large suitcases and a sleeping bag. The girls watched her go in silence when they heard a whistling noise. "Look out," Luke called and the football landed right in the middle of them. "Watch it," Beverly shouted as Brenda threw the ball back to Tyson. He grinned at her and she felt her cheeks burn red. She was so taken by him, she hoped something blossomed between the two of them. "Oh, the only person who has the same cabin as you is Elyse. Beverly, and Amanda you two are in with Michelle and I am all by myself," Jack announced. "Oh how sad," Brenda exclaimed. They were with different churches which was why they were not together. "At least the rest of us have someone right?" Amanda tried to be optimistic. "Easy for you to say," Jack grinned and they began to take their things to their cabin. They didn't see each other again until dinner. At dinnertime, Brenda sat with her friends, Jack, Beverly, Amanda, and Michelle. She saw Tyson walking over with his friends, Ryan and Josh. She waved them over for there were just three seats left. Then Brady, Tom, and Luke sat in the empty chairs. Tyson glared at them but angrily sat at a table next to them. Brenda was speechless with astonishment, and looked at her friends who were also shocked. They shrugged and looked away from her. During the entire dinner, Tyson was giving Brady the evil eye but Brady either did not notice or pretended not to. Brenda was happy with that because it meant that Tyson liked her but apparently so did Brady. She finally had Tyson within reach after all those years of liking him but not being able to say anything. How wonderful! That night after dinner and after the small concert that the camp had held, Brenda walked wearily back to her cabin with her friend, Elyse. They walked in and she sat on her bunk. They were supposed to be having cabin devotions at that time. Something poked her through her sleeping bag. She reached in and pulled out a slightly flattened rose and envelope. Her breath caught in her throat, she was terrified now. She couldn't stand another one, not now, not ever. She carefully pulled out and unfolded a note. It only read, "I am here!" "What's wrong?" Elyse asked. Elyse sat beside her with a concerned expression on her face. "Nothing," Brenda really struggled to keep her voice steady. She was shaking and wanted to get out of here but she had no idea to where she would run. "Nothing does not change your skin complexion from luxurious tan to white! Hey, what is that? A rose and a note, hmmm, a secret admirer, huh?" Elyse chuckled. She had mischievous grin and her eyes twinkled. "Yeah, something like that," Brenda replied distantly. The devotions tonight were on trust but she could not keep her mind focused. It kept wandering to the roses and their messages. She quietly said amen to the prayer and snuggled into her sleeping bag. It wasn't long before the girls began to snore in their sleep. When it was finally lights off, Brenda was the last one to fall asleep. She kept on thinking, "Why me? Why is he doing this? What does he want?" repeatedly. Finally, she fell into a disturbed and restless sleep with no answers to her question. The next day, there was a note from the counselors, "Hey girls, we know you are disappointed but something rather unexpected and unplanned reared its ugly head (That's Donna's poetry for you guys). There are only two counselors left so if you have problems well it is up to you to find them. Do not party too hard, Donna and the most lovely Marie" Like the counselors figured, nobody was too disappointed but neither were the "parties" extremely fun. Brenda was walking to the "Mess Hall" with Elyse when she realized that she forgot her camera. Man, she was so absentminded, it irritated her so much. Oh well, it happened. "Elyse, go on down to the "Mess Hall. I just realized that like an idiot, I left my camera back in the cabin. Save me a spot or something," she rolled her eyes at her own stupidness. She could not believe that she had done that. It wasn't event the first time which made it really bad. "Hey, I don't mind going back up with you," Elyse replied. Elyse was a great friend but Brenda wasn't going to do that to her. "No, it is bad enough that I have to go back. Anyways, all the good tables would be gone. Go down and catch us a good table," Brenda instructed. "Fine, be that way," Elyse said in a pretend insulted tone of voice. She laughed as the two of them parted ways. Brenda walked back to the cabin quickly deciding that she wished Elyse was here with her. It was quite frightening being all alone in a big dark forest where anything could be lurking. She kept on scaring herself with imaginary creepy crawly things and creating in her mind, scenes of her "death." Finally, she arrived at the cabin and not a moment too soon. She was rummaging through her bags when she saw someone coming to the cabin out of the corner of her eye. She stared at the figure harder and realized with a start that it was Brady. She thought, he must be lost. Brenda continued looking for her camera until she heard heavy footsteps on the wooden porch. She looked up, astonished, when the door opened to reveal Brady stepping in, like a king checking his kingdom. Both asked at the same time, "What are you doing here?" "Ladies first," Brady smiled graciously at that little saying. "I forgot my camera here so I came back for it but I cannot find it anywhere. Why are you here, in a girls' cabin when no one else is supposed to be here?" she inquired. Her heart began to pound ferociously and she had the sneaking sensation that she was in trouble with this blue eyed hottie. "Because. . . I was delivering a rose and a note to your bag," he held up a rose and an envelope. "You're the one who has been delivering the roses?" Brenda's voice was no longer carefree. "Yes, this other camper, who wishes to remain anonymous has been paying me ten dollars to deliver a rose and a note to your sleeping bag. Why do you look so upset, I thought he was doing it cause he has this major crush on you" Brady said, looking at her curiously. "Oh, okay" her heart was pounding in her ears. She was jumping to unnecessary conclusions and she felt really foolish. "Well, um, do you want this rose and note or should I give them back? I'd really like that ten dollars," Brady wanted to know. "Here, I'll take it so that you can get your money. Please don't tell him that I caught you. Okay?" she replied with a question. "Why not?" he inquired. "I'd really rather him not know, please, don't tell him?" she begged. "Okay, I won't tell him. I promise," he agreed, "How about we walk with you to the Mess Hall?" He handed her the rose and note. "Alright," she smiled at him and placed the rose and note on her sleeping bag. She made sure that she had her camera and they walked down the stairs together. At the bottom, Tom and Luke were waiting. "Oh hi Brenda," Tom stuttered. He looked shocked that she was up there and he looked at Brady with confusion on his face. "We're not going to tell you know who that Brenda caught me delivering the rose and note, okay?" Brady gave them a warning look and the two boys nodded their heads. "Great, so let's go have breakfast," she smiled and they all walked down to the Mess Hall. They stepped in and she saw that her friends had saved a spot for her and that Tyson, Josh, and Ryan were also sitting there. She waved ecstatically to them. "Come sit with us," Brady invited her and she looked at her friends with longing. Brady and his friends had stolen one meal from her with Tyson and she wasn't going to let it happen again. "No, I'm really sorry but my friends saved me a spot. Maybe later," she grinned and went and sat with her friends. "What were you doing with him?" Jack asked. Tyson was listening intently. "I'll tell you later but I can tell you this. The rose," she replied. "You mean he's the one who's sending them?" Jack gaped in shock. "No, I'll explain later but he's not the one I'm interested in at the moment," she looked up at Tyson and smiled at him. A smile lit over his handsome face and he winked at her. "Trust me, I know," Jack whispered. "Don't forget your camera again," Elyse teased. "Hey, I won't," Brenda grinned and the whole table burst out laughing. They all knew her well enough to know that she probably would forget it again. She even knew it and that aggravated her. After breakfast, they went and played games which was a blast and before she knew it, she was already in bed, dreaming of Tyson. She remembered the rose and note and grabbed the new letter. She read, "Please, don't be worried. I mean you no harm, I just find your beauty so entrancing and your spirit so beautiful that I have found that I am in love with you. At the end of a dozen roses, you will learn who I am. So please, do not fear me for I fear you not. Love, The Watcher" She was astonished by this new development but it sent chills up her back. What if it were Tyson? Maybe that was why he was listening in on her conversation with Jack. Maybe it was him. She could feel her heart pounding faster with hope. Just maybe. "Ooh, another rose and note. From your secret admirer again," Elyse grinned. "Yeah, I think maybe they're from Tyson. I mean, probably not but that would just be too cool," Brenda confided in her blonde friend. "Oh that would be so cute. I mean, he definitely is interested in you. He watches everything you do but then again, there is that Brady guy. He's like to the point of stalking you. When you and Jack walk around, he follows you," Elyse laughed. Brenda looked at her with sudden fear in her eyes. Brady was following her? He was delivering roses to her, asking her to sit with him, and stealing chairs from her crush? Could it be him? "It couldn't be Tyson! I received a rose when I was on vacation and he was still in town. It is someone else," she stuttered. "Oh I just love juicy mysteries. Do you want me to keep my ears open?" Elyse questioned. "If you could please, now I'm going to bed. Good-night," Brenda turned on her side in her bunk and began to think about Brady. She knew the letter said not to be frightened, but there was something sinister about the entire thing. The next day, Brenda again forgot her camera. "You'll never believe it but I forgot my camera again," she chuckled. "Good grief Brenda, alright. I'll save you a spot so that Tyson can come sit with you again. Please learn from your mistake this time," Elyse pushed her teasingly. "No guarantees," was her response. "I know," the two parted ways again. She hurried to the cabin, keeping her eyes open for Brady and his friends but she was alone. She hurried into her cabin, grabbed her camera, and hurried back down the stairs. Suddenly Brady stepped into her path. "Oh hi, Brady," she stumbled backwards. "I couldn't wait a dozen roses. I love you too much," he smiled broadly. She swallowed nervously and took a step back, "You hardly know me Brady. I thought you were delivering those roses for someone else." "I lied. I didn't expect you there and it caught me off guard. I realize I have to be with you now. I love you way too much," he reached for her hand but she pulled away. "Brady, I'm really not ready for a steady relationship especially not one as serious as you seem to be looking for," she mumbled. He looked hurt and his smile faltered. "What do you mean? I want to be with you, and I know that in your heart, you want to be with me," he insisted. "No, I don't. I am interested in another guy here, not you. So, please let me go on to breakfast," she attempted to push past him but he flashed out and grabbed her wrist with an iron grip. "Let me go. You're hurting me," Brenda yelled. She tried to shake free but his hand was like a claw. His eyes were full of hurt and anger. "How can you not like me Brenda? I've been the perfect gentleman. I even bought you roses and I would take care of you like no one else ever could," he growled. "No, Brady, let me go. You're too intense for me and you don't know me well enough to love me. Stalking me does not qualify you to my life," she slapped him with her free hand. The blow took him by supprize and he staggered backwards, dragging her with him. "How dare you! I tried to be nice now I'm going to have to be mean," he snarled and slapped her hard on the side of her face. Her face stung and the smack made her dizzy for a moment. He took advantage of her momentary off balance and began to drag her. Her instincts flipped on and impulsively she kicked him in the shin as hard as she could. While kicking him, she punched his face as hard as she could there too. He released her hand to clutch at his shin and face. She shoved past him and began to run towards the bottom of the stairs. She came to a sudden stop when she saw Tom and Luke waiting for Brady at the bottom. "Hey Brady, hurry up man. We are starving," Luke yelled. Tom and him were joking around and punching each other in the shoulders. "Yeah, if you take any longer we are going to turn cannibal, come up there, and eat you for breakfast," Tom shouted. Luke and Tom snickered, thinking they were riots. Brenda turned off the path and began to crash through the shrubbery. She slipped over a log and leapt back up, determined to get away at any price. She had gone a little way, when she heard an irate Brady scream, "Idiots, idiots!" "What did we do now?" Tom shouted. "I had her and she escaped me. We need to catch her and now," Brady cursed and began smashing through the shrubbery after his wanted prize. She began to force her way through the undergrowth that clawed at her. She burst out of the woods and onto the path. She looked one way than another and figured out the direction of the Mess Hall. She began running with everything she had so as she could be as far away from her pursuers as she could. She was almost there when she saw two boys by the names of Jesse and Ricky. "You have to help me," Brenda gasped out in desperation. She hung onto one of their sleeves, trying to catch her breath. "Why, what is going on?" Jesse asked. His light blue eyes searched her face with concern. "Brady is trying to catch me for some reason. I know that he'll hurt me," Jennifer explained. Ricky and Jesse looked at each other for a moment then back at her. His voice was steady and calm but rather wicked sounding. "I think we need to find Brady and discuss this civilly," Ricky reached for her arm. She felt panic rise in her throat and she yanked back. She realized that she needed to get away from these two but why she did not know. "What's wrong? We aren't going to hurt you," Jesse again reached for her arm. "No," Brenda cried out then turned and began to run. She had no clue towards where but she was not going to be put into Brady's grasp, he was psychotic and she would not be his victim. "Brenda," Ricky and Jesse yelled. She saw Brady, Luke, and Tom burst out of the underbrush. Brady's eyes were wild with rage and an evil sneer spread across his face when his eyes located her. "There she is," Tom pointed at her. She swerved to her right, towards the canteen and parking garage. She prayed desperately that she would be able to escape for she had no clue what he would do to her but she knew that it was bad. "Get her," Brady screamed. His voice cracked and she knew so had his mind. "We are trying," Jesse shouted back. She screamed as Elyse stepped into her path. She looked astonished to see Brenda running for her life when all she had been doing was going to retrieve her camera. "Brenda, what is going on?" Elyse wanted to know. "They are trying to catch me," she saw that they were closer. There was no time to explain, they had to run. "Get Elyse too," Brady instructed. His cruel laughter reached their ears and they looked at each other with fear in their eyes. Elyse was still unsure of what was going on and was under the impression that it was all a game. "Oh crud, run," Brenda yelped and the two girls began to run. Elyse was still out in the dark. "Why?" Elyse cried out. Brenda wanted to scream in exasperation. How could Elyse be so daft not to realize these guys meant business? "I do not know but split up," she replied. Elyse ran into the canteen and Brenda veered off towards the parking garage. She had no idea where she would go but she knew that she had to escape these madmen. Suddenly there were curses of anger. She looked back and saw Amanda and Beverly throwing stones at the boys. She also noted that someone was throwing pinecones from in the forest. She mentally cheered. She loved her friends dearly and could always count on them to rescue her as they could count on her. "Tom, Luke, and Ricky, go get them," Brady ordered. Frustration was oozing from him like sweat. Things were getting too complicated, even for him. Jack was standing in the forest throwing pinecones at the boys. She loved to tick them off, and was busy tossing a handful of them, when she heard the instructions. She saw Ricky darting into the woods in her direction and she smiled wickedly. He had no idea who he was dealing with but that was okay because she was going to show him. He saw her and he too smiled wickedly. He thought he was only playing with a silly female, he had no clue that he was about to be wounded in the worse possible way for a boy. He charged at her but she held her ground. She knew that she had to hold it steady, so she stayed, waiting for the perfect moment. When he was close enough, she swiftly flashed out her foot and kicked him in the groin. His high-pitched howl rung through the forest. He dropped to his knees with tears streaming down his face. Jack couldn't help it, she stood over him and laughed for a few seconds. Then she scurried off to find help for Brenda. She knew just who to search for, Tyson! Tweet
