Click here to read the first 75 lines of the story “He had surgery?” “Yes, on his leg.” “Oh. He’s going to be okay, right?” “Yes.” “Did I tell you we saw Will Smith?” “You told me yesterday.” “Oh. It was so cool.” “How’s Ceetee? How are you two getting along?” “Fine.” “Are you eating healthy foods?” “Yes.” “Are you learning a lot at Ski School.” “Yes.” “We’re coming home on Monday.” “You are? This Monday?” “Yes. We’re bringing Kevin.” “Oh. Okay.” Ceetee and I swam in the pool and jacuzzied every day, loving the feel of snowflakes falling on us while we sat in the hot hot water. We built snow forts, and wrote KEEP OUT on them with a charcoal briquette we snagged from a neighbor’s grill. We ate pounds of ramen noodles, and watched The Princess Bride over and over. On Sunday, Ceetee and I cleaned the house from top to bottom, retrieving dishes from dusty corners, and scrubbing the counters. We opened all the windows to let out the smell of smoke and pounded the smell out of the couch cushions. We filled the air with Cucumber Melon body splash, and folded our clothes. We threw all the leftover junk food into our neighbors trash can, and bought healthy things like milk and broccoli, grinding up half of each vegetable in the disposal so it would look like we’d eaten it. We ate all the Ben & Jerry’s, wincing at the severe cases of freeze head, and stocked the freezer with frozen lasagna and chicken-pot-pie. We stayed up all night Sunday night, and watched the hot air balloons rising over the mountains with the sun. Tweet
