She wanted Callum back and turning up at that party with Luke would hopefully make him jealous. That evening, when she got home, she phoned her friend and told her what she was planning on doing. ‘You can't be serious?' the friend asked. ‘Talk about playing with fire. You are heading for trouble, my girl.' But Katie doubted it. She knew exactly what she was doing. She was going to get Callum back, even if it was the last thing she did. After ringing off from her friend, her mobile trilled. ‘So, what can I do for you, lover boy?' she asked after answering the phone. ‘Hi, Katie. Go on then. I'll take you to the party on Saturday. What time shall I pick you up?' ‘Oh. Luke. I can't wait. Say about six-thirty? And don't be late.' ‘I won't, babe, I promise.' The next day, after work, Katie went shopping. She wanted something nice to wear for the party. She wanted to look her best. She wanted to look so irresistible that Callum wouldn't be able to keep his eyes off her. But as she made her way into one shop she had a surprise. ‘Fancy bumping into you,' Katie said to her friend. ‘Hi, Katie, still going to that party?' ‘Yeah, and Luke is coming is taking me.' ‘Katie, stop playing games, you'll only get hurt.' ‘I'm not playing games.' ‘Of course, you are not!' When Saturday came, Katie went up the stairs to change into her party clothes. Once changed she couldn't help but admire herself in the mirror. She then took off down the stairs and headed for the bus. Then she remembered that Luke was picking her up. She had got herself so excited that she had forgotten about him. Mind you, it wasn't Luke she had her mind on. ‘Where are you going?' he asked her after had wound his car window down. ‘Sorry, Luke, it is a force of habit. I'm always heading for the bus stop.' When they got to the party the place was in full swing, but where was Callum? She searched the whole house and she couldn't find him. She was beginning to think it was some sort of joke. ‘Hey, Luke, where is Callum?' ‘I don't know. Why are you so bothered? You are supposed to be with me, not him? Days late and Katie was making her way to work, and who should she happen to run into? Callum. ‘I want a word with you,' she said to him. ‘Why, what have I done?' he replied. ‘Why weren't you at that party the other night?' I had no intention of going.' ‘Why?' Because I had a message from Luke, and he seemed to think you were using him to get at me.' ‘It's not true.' ‘Get lost, Katie. Oh, and do me a favour?' ‘What?' ‘Leave me alone in future. I don't want anything more to do with you!' Katie just walked away. What else could she do? Follow me on my website - kenmakepeace.com. Tweet
