suspected appendicitis. She phoned me up to go and get some stuff from
her flat, like a dressing gown and things,' she lied.

‘And that took you all this time?'

‘Well, I had to make two journeys, and you know what the buses are like
these days.'

If her dad had believed everything that she had told him, he was more
gullible than she had given him credit for, but for some reason, he
never questioned her about the matter after that.

After finishing work, she went home, then straight up to her bedroom and
started packing her things to take with her to Kylie's flat. She knew
that her dad was going to be late home, so she had time to pack, then
make her escape without him noticing.

After packing her stuff together, Sarah made her way down the stairs,
then phoned Kylie to tell her she was ready to be picked up.

When Kylie arrived at Sarah's house, she started to realise that she was
probably making the biggest mistake of her life letting Sarah move him
with her, but it was too late to change her mind. She'd already told
her that she could move in. There was no way she could go back on her
word.

The girls soon got Sarah's stuff in Kylie's car boot, and what hadn't
gone in the boot ended up on the back seat of the car.

‘How much stuff have you got with you? You sure you haven't forgotten
anything?' Kylie said as she went to drive off to head towards her
flat.

‘No, I don't think so.'

‘You could have fooled me,' Kylie said in a sarcastic manner.

Days went by and Kylie was already regretting having Sarah come to stay.
Sarah didn't do a thing to help around the flat. She was so lazy. She
didn't help with any cooking. And washing up or doing the laundry was
alien to her. And why did she have to play her music so loud? Why
couldn't she use headphones like everyone else?

Kylie had come to the end of her tether. She couldn't take any more. So
one night she lay in bed thinking how she could get Sarah out of her
flat so she could go back to peace and quiet, and the days of
normality. Then an idea came into her head.

The next night Sarah arrived home from work. As soon as Kylie realised
she had come in she put Sarah's tea on the table. Then while they were
eating their meal, there was a ring on the doorbell.

‘Can you go and answer that?' Kylie asked Sarah.

‘Can't you answer it? I'm busy eating.'

‘No, I think you'd better answer it. I have an idea it is for you.'

Sarah went to the door, hoping it could be this boy she was interested
in, but when she opened the door, her face turned white with shock.

‘Dad, what are you doing here?'

‘Can I come in?'

Sarah let him in, then they went into the lounge.

‘How long are you stopping here?' her dad asked her.

‘Dunno. Maybe forever. You haven't missed me. If you had you'd have been
round here sooner.'

‘Been around sooner? I didn't even know where you were.'

While father and daughter were having an emotional conversation, little
did they know that Kylie was on the other side of the door, with her
ear pressed closely, listening to what they were saying, but while
listening, the door opened and out came Sarah and her dad.

Sarah looked at Kylie with tears in her eyes, as she said:

‘I've decided to go home with my dad. I'll pay my part of the rent for
the rest of this week.'

Kylie tried to keep a solemn look on her face.

‘It's OK, Sarah. Don't worry too much about the rent.'

After helping Sarah pack, then helping her take her belongings to her
dad's car, she gave her friend a hug, then returned inside, with a big
smile on her face.

Once inside, she made herself a coffee, sat back on the sofa and
listened to her favourite Simon and Garfunkle song - ‘Homeward Bound.'
And that was exactly where Sarah was heading - home!
