she saw him standing there.

‘That is my date,' she said to Alice. ‘I got him to ask you out to wind
you up.'

‘You are a rotten person, Elise. No wonder no one likes you.'

Alice made her way home, still with tears in her eyes.

When she got home she went up to her room and started listening to music
on her phone, anything to take her mind off what had just happened. How
could Elise be so cruel? But that was her all over. She had been the
same since they were little. She was never going to change. She would
always be rotten for the rest of her life.

The next morning Alice got ready for college - a day she wasn't looking
forward to. In fact, she was dreading it. She felt like turning back
around and going back to bed and staying there forever. But she knew
she had to go to college. She just had too much work to catch up with.

Alice arrived at the bus stop, boarded the bus and got off just outside
the college gates. And that was when she did wish she had stayed in
bed, as she saw Elise standing by the gates, and with her was that
boyfriend of hers. She gave an icy stare. She wasn't going to let them
two bother her.

But as Alice carried on towards the gates, Elise's boyfriend came
walking up to her.

‘What can I do for you?' she asked him, still carrying the icy stare -
one she didn't want to get rid of.

‘Fancy coming out with me tonight?' he asked her.

‘Yeah, sending the messenger over again with the latest wind up, is
she?'

‘I've dumped her. Go and ask her if you don't believe me.'

But Alice didn't have to go and ask her. She could see Elise wiping
tears away from her eyes, then running off.

‘OK, the cinema tonight, and if that former best friend of mine is
anywhere Near, you have had it. Understand?'

‘Understand,' he answered with a grin on his face.
