Jonah is betrayed by Leah, his village, and God | |||
Click here to read the first 75 lines of the story that she would have a boy because the picture in her mind was so beautiful. On the third day they arrived at the mountain. Jonah and Leah stared up toward the peak of the mountain. It seemed so far away and impossible. Jonah looked down at his feet in his now ragged moccasins and at the blisters that hadn’t popped, which he could see through the holes in the moccasins. Jonah looked at Leah. She was beautiful in the morning sunlight and seemed eager to start scrambling up the mountain side. And that was when Jonah decided that he wouldn’t climb the mountain. “I’m not going,” he told Leah. “Why? What do you mean?” “I’m not climbing this mountain.” “But--” “Think about it! Why are we here? Why do we have to climb this ridiculous mountain? To speak with God on the mount!? No, I won’t do it. It’s not worth it. I’m going to kill myself climbing this mountain to beg God to forgive me for fucking you!? No way. I’m not sorry it happened. I would do it again. If this were such a big deal for God, He would have stopped me and said, ‘Jonah, don’t fuck Leah.’ But He didn’t and He won’t. So I’m leaving.” “But--” Jonah had already started walking. Leah seemed confused for a minute. “I’ll meet you back at the village, honey,” called out Leah, “I’ll ask God to forgive you for what you just said. It’s all right, I’m sure.” Leah made it half way up the mountain before she fell and died. God didn’t catch her just in time and tell her to be more careful. Tweet
