Click here to read the first 75 lines of the story “Me? Well, my friends call me JoJo, the Okla-Homo, but my real name is Bill.” “Whoa! Wait! You're gay? I said, quickly checking to see if my underpants were still on. “Hell no, I'm not fucking gay!” he said. “Are you gay?” “No, I'm not gay,” I said, “but what's this Okla-Homo bullshit.” “Oh, that. Well,” he said slowly. “I was born in Tulsa, I'm a good dancer, and sometimes I pretend to be gay because it's easier to get laid,” he said. I assumed he meant getting laid with girls, but I wasn't going there. I started to think again about what I had to do that day. “Hey Bill,” I said. “Is there some place where I can catch a cab from here?” “A cab? Ah, don't worry. I'll take you home.” “Take me home with what? I asked. “Oh Yeah! Yeah. What the hell am I thinking of,” he said with a mischievous look on his face. “Sure, I'll call a cab for you.” `My car was still at the bar, so I had to go back there and pick it up. My driver didn't speak English very well and he got totally confused about where to go. A few hours later and after taking me to two wrong locations, I finally got his boss to lead him in the right direction. I didn't get home until after dark. I was supposed to meet her that night and I had already decided that I was going to break up with her. I met her at a party at one of my friend's house. By the time it was over, we were both pretty drunk and we ended up sleeping together that night. For the next few weeks, it seemed that I spent every second with her either drinking or screwing. One day, she told me she was married. Her husband was a truck driver and was away for days or weeks at a time. I should have broken it off right then and there, but I didn't. She had gotten under my skin, and to be honest her skin felt really good. But, our relationship was like a quagmire for me. Every time I tried to escape, it pulled me ever deeper and deeper inside. I hated myself for sleeping with a married women, but she really had me by the balls. Eventually, we set up a system so we could meet with each other safely. We decided early on that we weren't going to use a cell phone, telephone or email to communicate. It was just too dangerous. She had met her husband at the company where he and she both worked, so knowing when he was about to leave or come home was easy for her. She even made it possible for me to check on him on the company's computer through the internet. The deal was that when he was scheduled to leave, she would come over to my place. She called it our estimated time of arousal. This went on for months. I asked her one time why she just didn't leave him. She looked at me with a very matter of fact look on her face. “Why should I?” she asked. I just didn't know how to respond to that. Despite all of our precautions, her husband eventually became suspicious of her. At one point, he even went out and bought a gun and told her that if he ever found her with another guy, he would kill both of them. I don't think he actually knew that I existed, but she told me once that he thought she was sleeping with her boss. One time when she was with me, his truck broke down in the middle of the night and he was told to go back home. When he didn't find her there, he went ballistic. He drove over to her boss's house like a maniac. He didn't see her car there, so he called her on her cell. “Where the fuck are you?” he yelled loudly. I have to hand it to her. She pretty much thought about just about anything that could go wrong. Her best friend's daughter had a bad case of asthma, and sometimes had to be taken to the emergency room. She volunteered to baby sit her other kids whenever this happened, and she actually did this a few times when he was home. She told him that is where she was. Why he believed this bullshit or drive to her friend's house, I'll never know. It's funny. Sometimes we believe what we know deep down inside is not true, but it's just easier to do that rather than face the truth. She still hadn't arrived at my house that night. I wasn't sure if she had come over and left when I wasn't home. There was no way I could contact her, so I just waited. Eventually, I feel asleep on the couch watching TV. I woke up late the next morning and the television was sill on. It was all over the news. Her husband had found her sleeping with her boss, and just as he had promised, he killed both of them. Then he shot himself in the head. Tweet
