answering machine.  It was my partner, Jack Puide. He was yelling for 
me to get out of my place and meet him down at the crime scene.  He 
knew I was home getting together with my girl, so he kept talking 
through the answering machine until I picked up the phone when I heard 
his voice.  He insisted that he and I had work to do, and that Kelly 
and I would be able to work more on our 'current project' at a later 
time. 

I unhappily left my heated waterbed.  I left my babe curled up in my
camel hair blanket wondering what had just happened to her, and 
wondering why she was alone again.  I told her I would be back. You 
could sense the bitterness that she had for the situation. 

I got my butt down to the city library.  I parked my Kawasaki Ninja
around the corner, and out of sight.  At first it appeared that kids 
had just vandalized some cars, and a small workman's tool shed.  But 
after Puide and I checked out the place, we knew there was more to it.  
We knew that there had been a murder. We checked the entire area again, 
and found no obvious clues.  We talked with the neighbors, the 
late-night librarians, and even the kids that were still awake and out 
in the streets of the project apartments nearby.  Still no clues. 

We cleared the scene in another hour, and sent all the cops away, but we
stayed in Puide's pimped-out Cadillac undercover patrol car.  We were 
going to stay on a stakeout.  Ass I called Kelly to tell her I would be 
late, Jack got out our cooler, and began eating our usual snacks: 
Turkey subs, watermelon Jello, and Miller Lite beers. 

Soon it got dark, and the show began...
