Click here to read the first 75 lines of the story sonic booms with my voice.” She smiles and winks at me. I hope no one can see me blushing underneath this metal but it turns out I'm wrong. The last girl is gone in an instant and suddenly right behind me. “My name is Express and I like to do everything very fast” she says almost seductively in my ear putting her hands on my shoulders. “Oh brother” Pulse mumbles to herself. “So is this your girlfriend” Express raises and eyebrow towards Pulse. “What?! No of course not were just friends” I say almost alarmingly. Hummer starts cracking up on my shoulder. “Hey shut up or I'm going to flick you off.” He gets up grudgingly and flies off “sheesh a guy can't get a laugh in around here.” “Well this has all been very nice and all but anyone remember the impending battle” Martial says in an annoyed tone. “He's right let's get going.” Helix tries to get everyone moving. As we walk Express and Echo push there way next to me bumping Pulse to the side. Though somewhat flattered with there infatuation I try to ignore them focusing on the mission ahead. As we move around the corner the Hospital building is dead ahead in a dead end street. I can see the four Renegades spread out across the front of the building not bothering to conceal themselves. About fifty yards ahead they just stare at us burning to fight. One of them literally burning. Slowburn is the first to speak “well lets not waste anytime we all know what were hear for.” His body is ignited in flames as he throws a fireball towards us. Echo and I sidestep to dodge is easily. “This is it” Helix shouts “Guardians strike!” Everyone rushes forward as the Renegades do the same running straight for us though outnumbered by double. I'm counting on and easy fight but before I know it I'm already in it. Helix springs upward high into the air but Slowburn shoots a stream of fire that consumes him. He screams landing burning on the ground. “No Helix!” Express run over to him and dashes in circles around him at a super fast speed. The cyclone it creates extinguishes the fire and she stops running. Kneeling down to see if he's ok she doesn't notice the truck coming for her. Burnout revs his engine and drives headlong into her sending her flying across the street. Replica makes twenty copies of himself and surrounds Raptor. “Watcha gonna do know dino” he says with a cocky tone smirking. Raptor morphs into a stegosaurus and swings his spikes tail wiping out a whole flank of Replica's copies. They disappear one after another as they frantically try climbing onto the great creature. I run over to help smashing into his side. He falters a little but doesn't fall. Another swing of his tail hits one of Replica's copies slicing across his chest but this time it doesn't disappear. A yell of agony goes out and all the other copies vanish leaving the original on the ground. The tail rises to come down on him but I rush over. Just as it swings downward I catch his tail. Using all my strength I turn him to his side and he lets out a groan smashing into the ground. Another figure is suddenly behind me and touches my shoulder. My heart races realizing it's the fourth Renegade wondering what she's about to do. I quickly spin around and she just smiles. “Hello there.” “What do you do?” I raise my fist but cant bring myself to hit a seemingly defenseless woman. She looks like she's getting ready to punch me as well. “Um lady I wouldn't do that.” “Aww chivalry isn't that cute.” She turns into steel just like me and smashes her fist into me. I flail backwards a few feet unexpectedly. “Well guess what chivalry just died.” I get ready to rush her when a giant tail smashes into my side sending me scraping across the ground. I look back up to see the carnage going on. The street is swept with battle from left to right with the Guardians clearly losing. Echo is trying to fight off both Slowburn and Burnout. Pulse and Martial have their hands full with Raptor and the metal girl who seems to have copied my ability. Somehow we have to change the outcome of this battle that does not appear to be going well. I have to do something. Getting up I snap off and light pole in my hands and run towards the others. Raptor has changed into a t-rex chomping at Martial as he nimbly dodges throwing metal stars that stick in his face. Raptor roars at the pain and tries to scrape them off but his arms are too small. He morphs down into a smaller form as a raptor. As he wipes his face I swing the pole straight for him. Crushing into his side it sends him airborne. He streams straight through a window in the hospital building. I look back to see Pulse fighting with the girl who copied my abilities. “Why do you look like Steel” Pulse questions deflecting every punch with her drumsticks. “The names Copycat baby girl and I take anyone's power I feel like.” She steps forward and wraps her arms around Pulse restraining her from moving. Squeezing her tight Pulse struggles to get free but quickly loses breath. I run up to help but Copycat puts Pulse between us. I try to punch but hold back every time in fear of hurting her. “Seems were at a stand off aren't we metal boy.” Copycat grins at me knowing she has the upper hand. “Now power down or the girl pops like a balloon.” “Don't ...do...” Pulse tries to say something but the death grip on her has her at a loss for words. I can see her face turning blue and struggle within myself. Finally my arms drop to my side and steel fades away back to my normal body. “Ok fine you win now let her go” I say dropping my hands in surrender. She picks her up and throws her across the street. I watch helpless as Pulse crashes into the ground unmoving. “Sorry about your girlfriend but you really did make the wrong move.” She throws a punch straight into my chest and hits solid metal. “What the...” “You really think I would give into you” I smile “Only the visible parts of me changed back.” Metal grows once again over my arms and face. “Now it's a fair fight.” “So you ready to burn up the scene baby” Slowburn says to Echo winking. “You know what let me respond with the following...Noooooo!” She lets out a super sonic scream that blows him backwards into a wall. “Then I guess I'll just have to run you out of town.” Burnout morphs into a muscle car and races towards her. She lets out another scream that tears up the asphalt in its path. Burnout gets caught in the blast stopping him in his tracks. Slowly it picks him off the ground flipping the car on its back. He morphs back into a human groaning in pain. “This isn't over yet.” Slowburn walks towards her brushing dirt off his shoulder. “I'm gonna make sure you burn real slow. His entire body ignites in flames. “Now let's have fun.” He takes some kind of sick joy at the fear in her eyes. He thrusts his arms outward as fire pours from his body flying towards Echo. She lets out a scream that clashes in mid-air holding back the flames. “Well I can keep this up for a while but I'm pretty sure you'll need to breathe soon.” The fire and scream continue to pummel each other between them. Echo's face begins to slowly turn blue from lack of air. Her voice gradually fades and the fire closes in. Sweat drips down her face slowly rolling down her neck as the heat becomes more intense. Finally she drops to her knees and gasps in air as the fire consumes her. Not feeling the extreme heat she looks up in wonderment. I stand in front of her arms crossed taking the full force of the blast. Even with my metal the shield the heat is almost unbearable and I drop to a knee raising my hands to cover my face. “Can't take the heat can you steel boy.” He walks closer towards me and the temperature continues to rise. Just when I think my body is going to bake the heat unexpectedly stops. I look up to see Slowburn's face gone completely pale. A small throwing knife is protruding from his neck. Martial appears out of the nowhere next to him and watches expressionless as his lifeless body crumples to the ground. “Don't look so shocked kid you're going to see that a lot in this war. You just better get them before they get you." “Good advice I think I'll follow it.” Burnout has his arms and legs turned into wheels and skates up to us. He spins his right arm quick and strikes out. It smashes under my chin and a left swing to the side of my head sends me to the ground. He sets his front wheels on the ground and kicks out in a wide arc with his back wheels. Martial nimbly flips backwards dodging the attack but his wheels spin into Echo's side pushing her across the street. Martial quickly fires out three throwing stars. Burnout spins his hand wheels deflecting the stars easily. “You won't take me down that easily.” Without saying a word Martial takes a small staff off his belt that extends a few feet long. Burnout morphs into a jeep and gives it the gas. Martial runs straight towards him and places his staff firm into the ground. Using it as leverage he pole vaults over the car firing needles straight into the back tires. Skidding to a halt on deflated wheels he changes back into human form on his knees. He cringes in pain from the needles in his legs. He pulls them out with a grunt and leans forward on his hands. “Its over Renegade” Martial says walking up with his staff over his shoulder. He lashes out but just before the staff reaches burnout its caught in a metal hand. Martial looks up to see Copycat holding it tight in her hand grinning. Swinging her other hand she snaps the bar in half easily. She swipes at him chopping his chest with her hand. Martial is taken off guard and flies back into the building. “Since they call you the silent ninja I'll make sure no one hears you die.” Copycat slowly walks towards him as he tries to get up. A few feet from him I step between them. “Oh so you think you can save him do you?” “I think your reign ends here.” “And how do you plan to stop me exactly when I have your powers and obviously superior fighting ability?” “Well that may be true but I have numbers on my side.” She looks around and the realization hits her. Echo walks up from her left and Express instantly runs up stopping behinds her. Even Hummer grows visible to her right. “I think you see my point.” “Well” her eyes dart back and forth “I guess its time I take my leave.” She leans back pushing Express just slightly the metal fading off her body. “Don't worry though I'll be back” she says winking at me in a split second before running away incredibly fast. It seems burnout has escaped to even in his condition. “Darn it she copied Espress's power.” “Should I follow her?” Express gets ready to take off. “No she's to strong and besides” I look around the street at our friends scattered across the ground “we have fallen comrades to attend to.” Echo walks up to Helix and kneels next to him. “He's suffered some bad burns but he'll be ok.” She takes something's out of a medical bag and begins treating him. Express runs quickly over to Replica. “He's got a pretty deep cut across his chest.” She darts swiftly to the medical bag than back to him with bandages. I walk across the street smelling smoke in the air from a few burning cars. One explodes off to the side but no one seems to take any note. I hear commands being shouted from one friend to another trying to relay medical techniques. That's when I see her. Pulse lying on the ground still motionless. “Pulse” I yell running up to her. I fall to my knees at her side and lean my head down next to her. Her breathing is very faint almost unnoticeable. Martial comes up behind me. “She's almost gone isn't she?” “No she's not she's fine. Don't you have some kind of medicine that can help?” I half yell as tears start to well up in my eyes. He puts his hand on my shoulder “She is to far gone my friend I'm afraid no medicine can cure her. Her heart is beating to slow without enough oxygen.” “That's a medical building isn't it?” I look forward to the massive building ahead of us. “Yes it is but the chances of...” Before he even finishes I pick her up and start running towards the building. “Don't talk to me about chances, there's always a chance!” I shout as I make my way towards the building.
