toward my car and I went too, hurrying up to my side of the car. The
pavement we walked on felt brittle and out of place. The sky remained
stuffed with darkness, save a speck of starlight every once in while.
"Well, you see," he said, speaking over the top of my car. "I tried to
do something horrible." I felt a cold deadness creep up within me as
he said this. But then I became frustrated and annoyed; I didn’t need
to be laden with some man’s meager confession. But for some reason, I
still shaked slightly.

"I tried killing myself," he said, "but I couldn’t do it." He looked at
me sadly and breathed slowly while confiding in me. "I planned on
jumping out in front of the next car, but then I saw you coming and
for some reason, you seemed like a savior in the night, a light of
faith beacon of hope, and you stopped." I shuddered all over and became

over to my side. I put the car in gear.

Then he lit a cigarette and took a long restless puff.

"Please help me," he said. “I left my kids when they were born," he
said, "and I can’t live with myself now."
