Click here to read the first 75 lines of the story the reports concluded the need for surgery. The formalities were completed and the operation began. When Grace came home the servant told her about it and she rushed to the hospital. She was afraid of whether he would make it or not and the thought making her precarious was that will Logan be able revive him. It was now over an hour that that the surgery had started. How much more time to go? She glanced at the clock ticking. A little later a nurse came out to fetch some medications and as she going back inside Grace asked her, “How is my uncle doing? Will he survive?” “I'm sure he will. Logan is god.” Half an hour later the operation was concluded and Logan came out smiling. “Don't worry. He's fine. You can meet him once he's shifted to the ward.” “Thank you Logan. You know how much he means to me.” “I know.” Later when Gabriel was shifted Grace went to see him. He was lying with pulse monitoring system attached to him. Grace took his hand and started weeping. “I never knew uncle that you would be so weak a man to not stand by your word of giving up alcohol. You had promised me.” Gabriel opened his eyes and had just opened his mouth to speak when blood gushed out of his mouth and nose. He started coughing heavily. He couldn't breathe. The equipment started showing signs of a fading pulse. Grace rushed out shouting for help. Logan heard her voice and ran to the ward. But by then Gabriel had breathed his last. He took his wrist and turned to Grace, “He's no more.” “Oh my God...,” and Grace started weeping profusely and fell to the ground. Logan reached up to her and put a hand on her shoulder. She brushed it aside and got up. He could see anger in her eyes. “I know you did this on purpose. You knew till the time he's alive you wouldn't get me and so you did it thinking you would just have to tell me that my uncle had seriously damaged his health and you couldn't help it. And then I would find solace in your arms, right?” “Look Grace if I had to do it then it would have been concluded in the operation theatre.” “You cannot convince me of anything Logan. Oh I'm sorry; Logan the god. But look even the god has failed and from now on will fail always. I curse you Logan. You will never succeed in any of your professional endeavors.” So saying she left and by the end of the next day had left the place for good and the change started thence. Logan's reputation faded with every failure. No patient healed and many died on the operating table. He was no longer considered the best. This affected his mental stability and every failure led to finding consolation in alcohol. Logan had drowned in his own tears. Days became weeks and weeks became months. An out and out energetic, enthusiastic and full of hope Logan had transformed into a dull and monotonous person. A year had passed when news came of Grace's arrival. She had come back to settle a land dispute with a distant relative. It was Gabriel's will that after him the land and property would go to her but her going away so abruptly had resulted in the intervening of the other person. Accompanying her was her lawyer and fiancé, Will, a handsome and fine looking young lad. The proceedings went on for 17 days but Grace did not enquire about Logan. Logan on the other hand used to visit the courtroom every time he knew Grace would be there. Her glimpse was all he desired. Finally the case was resolved and Grace and Will were to leave in another couple of days. “Let's celebrate the victory darling.” “I don't mind. I know of an inn not very far off and it has a really nice menu to dine on.” The inn wasn't that lively that night. Music played in the background and Will found themselves a quiet corner. They ordered wine and talked about their life ahead. While they were talking Grace couldn't help taking her eyes off the waitress serving the other guests. “What's the matter Grace? You don't seem to be taking interest in what I talk.” “Will, I think I recognize the waitress. She was the nurse at the hospital where my uncle had died.” Will turned around and called out to the lady. She walked up to them and was somewhat startled to see Grace. “See I knew it was her.” Will enquired, “Miss, were you a nurse before you changed your profession?” “Umm...yes. I was there when her uncle was being operated.” “So what had happened? He was alive and Logan said the operation was successful.” “Yes Grace. Logan was never at fault. Didn't I tell you he is god?” “So what happened?” “He had been administered a wrong drug which caused high blood pressure and a cardiac arrest.” “Who did it? Logan?” “No it was the nurse. It was me.” “Oh my God...” “It was my mistake. I accept it in front of you and that guilt made me leave the profession. But you don't know what your curse has done to Logan? He has been failing as a doctor ever since and has lost control on himself. The man once proclaimed by all as the best is now been looked down upon by all.” “Oh God...What have I done? Will, we must go and see him, please.” “Okay.” Grace left accepting the apologies of the nurse. She wasn't concerned about her. It was Logan who was on her mind. She took the car keys and started driving herself. Confused and pinching thoughts came and went through her. Why did she do it without clarifying the facts? She turned around a bend and the tyres screeched for a grip. She was going too fast. And before Will could ask her to go easy on the accelerator fate took over. “Ma'am its night time and this hospital does not have round the clock doctors. He has been put on life support and a request for the immediately available doctor has been sent across. We are expecting the doctor to arrive anytime now.” The nurse asked Grace to get a grip on herself and take a seat while her minor injuries were being taken care of. She was taken into the dressing room. The news of the doctor's arrival set her heart going. She rushed outside. “Ma'am, do not worry. The doctor's here and things will be taken care.” “Where is he?” “He's in the changing room.” Grace went toward the changing room just to find the doctor coming out prepared for the operation. “Doctor please save him. I cannot live without Will.” The doctor stared at her. His eyes sent her back into time. “I'll try my best.” Grace rushed back to the lady at the reception. “What is the doctor's name?” “Dr. Logan Bishop. He was the only one available” Tears came into Grace's eyes. She turned to see the surgery room bulb light up. The operation had started. © Walker Thoughts & Concepts Tweet
