York's men are called to fight the enemy forces in India during World War 4 | |||
Click here to read the first 75 lines of the story on, if we are to get to India on time." The door opened, and Gun was the first in, walking swiftly past the ticket counter. Minutes later, York was sitting in one of the most comfortable seats he had ever sat in. The plane rolled up to the main runway and stopped. The plane positioned itself for takeoff. The engines suddenly roared to life, and the plane sped up. The scenery became a blur as the aircraft shot down the runway. Seconds later, York and the other passengers were free from the bonds of Earth. "Gentleman, we need a plan." said Gun, having been cleared to stand up in the cabin. "Please stand up." York and the others rose. Gun clicked a switch, and the chairs descended below them, and the middle passage opened up to reveal a table rising up to them. Several small stools popped up along it. "Please, have a seat." "Now, we have no trenches to group in so it will be near 'hand to hand' combat. Our best option is to take their camps one by one, and on an irregular basis, so they don't know when we will be coming. They are occupying the cities of Kandia, Ahmadabad, Bombay, Hyderabad,Panaji, Marmagao, Bangalore, Calicut, Cochin, Tuticorin, Madurai, Pondicherry, and Madras. It will take a very long time, and I am open to any suggestions." said Gun. "What's so hard about digging trenches?" asked another brigadier general. "We will be going through the contaminated areas. That means we are going to have to wear the stiff protection suits, preventing us from actually being able to do much more than basic things and gun operations." Gun proceeded to unroll a map. "We begin here, as you can see, at Kandia. We will land in New Dehli, then after a week, we arrive at Kandia, where we will systematically take the cities one by one." York took a look at the plan. "Suppose we can't take one of the cities? How are we going to get back in safety?" Gun looked over at him. "We shouldn't have to retreat, but, if that need comes up, I can call for help." "Are there any objections?" asked Gun. No one answered. "Dismissed then." He clicked the switch again, and the table and chairs sank back down below the floor again. The other chairs came back up. York went back to his comfortable chair, and picked up the day's newspaper. Outside, it was dark. The only lights on were the overhead compartments and the flashing lights on the wings. York took a second to squint through the darkness. In the horizon, he could see the other planes in formation. He read the paper for a few more minutes, then fell asleep from intense sleepiness. He was asleep in seconds. The next morning, he awoke to see the charred and greenish hued landscape of the contaminated area. "Where are we?" asked York. "Over Pakistan, we will be arriving in New Dehli in a few hours." said the person next to him. He nodded and looked back out the window. He could see the charred remains of cars, the frames of buildings, and charred tree stumps. It was hard to believe life had actually existed down there. An hour later, the landscape had changed. There was more greenery. Grass was growing, and trees were less scarce. The ground was also getting mountainous. He knew they were almost in India. A door opened, and a flight attendant came out rolling a cart piled with breakfast foods. ... After having a hardy breakfast, York noticed the plane was getting lower. "Attention passengers, this is the captain. We are getting ready to land in New Dehli, so fasten your seat belts." York and the others did as they were told. He heard the whir of the landing gear. Looking out the window, he saw a bustling city, plenty of green, and saw the flaps of the wings raised for landing. "Please raise your seat." said the flight attendant to one of the commanders. The other planes veered off, waiting their turn for landing. The Clay Pigeon passed over the fence boundary, over the threshold, and thunked down on the runway. York flew forward as the pilot applied the brakes. "This is the captain, welcome to New Dehli. I have orders not to let you off until the other planes arrive, so bear with it. You can move about the cabin now, though." Everyone unclicked their seat belts, stretched, and got their bags ready. The plane pulled up to parking, and jerked to a stop. It took another hour for the rest of the planes to land. When the planes doors finally opened, the passengers left in record timing. There was a convoy of jeeps waiting for them. They were going to take them to the barracks. York got into one, next to his friend, Jacob Steed. "Can you believe we are in India?" asked Steed, while they were passing an elephant (in India, the streets are filled with cars, carts, and yes, even elephants) New Dehli was an amazing sight. Women were bustling by in Sari. Some were in regular clothing, and people were wearing turbans and more traditional clothing. Every few blocks, there were snake charmers. Many men were in Dhoti, and had some kind of material over that as well. "Look at everyone, they all have dots on their heads!" observed Steed. "It is extremely odd, but you have to think Steed, this is an ancient 3,000 year old way of life" said York. The streets were packed with cars, people, elephants, an occasional camel, and carts. In one corner, there was a group of women doing a traditional dance. York loved the Indian culture, so he was very happy to be here. "I wonder what our barracks will be like." he said. The convoy pulled up to a tall building called "Aditi". The embassy. Steed grabbed his bags and jumped out of the jeep. York followed suit. "The embassy has been completely vacated for us, so you each get a room!" called Gun. "You are free today, but be up at 4:30 in the morning for mobilization." York, Steed, and their other friend, corporal Lewis decided to share a room. The room was lavish! It was modeled after Indian culture. The drapes over the window were of a colorful loose material. The beds were soft, and had a comfortable blanket over them. The walls were gilded in gold, the floor was of satin, and in a corner, there was incense burning by a Hindu deitie, Yama. "Is that a bad omen?" asked York. That evening, the three hopped into one of the jeeps (with Gun's permission) and visited a bazaar. Steed paid money to see a snake charmer do his art. York and Lewis went over to a stand to look at incense, clothing, and other India goods. The heat in particular was new, so all three of them bought turbans. That night, they enjoyed fine Indian cuisine, before returning to the embassy. Next morning, Reveille played on the embassy intercom, waking everyone up. York, Steed and Lewis scrambled into their tweed material uniforms, and went down to the front for briefing. "listen up people! Today we go to Kandia. As we arrive, we will call in an air strike above the city. We will then occupy and raise our flag there. This will all be in the contaminated areas, so you will be putting these suits on." Gun said, pointing to a rack containing several hundred uniforms that looked like suits of armor. "Okay, boys, go to your commander, and follow his instructions." Gun clambered into a tank. York's men approached him. "Okay, first, get into your suits, you can keep the helmet off for now." he said, seeing other commanders say the same. "Then, follow me to our convoy section." York went over to the rack. These suits were uncomfortable. It would be hard for them to fight in them. He began by pulling the synthetic black material over his uniform. Then, he began pulling up the metal and plastic thigh armor, strapped it on, then proceeded to the boots. After that, he had to put on the middle torso connections, and the breastplate. Finally, he pulled on the sleeve armor, and put his boots back on. He also grabbed a gas mask/helmet off the rack. When the rest of his men reported back to him, he said, "Follow me!" Stiffly, and after breaking many a sweat, he sat down in the back of a military truck. It filled up quickly, as did the next one, and the next, and the next. After hours of preparation, the trucks, jeeps, tanks, and ammo transports pulled out of the embassy, and flooded into the streets of New Dehli. The people in the streets stopped and stared, they knew where they were going. Some women waved, others cried. York did not watch, it depressed him. Some children chased after the convoy, shouting in Hindi after them. After a few hours, they began crossing a desert. The heat was sweltering. Everyone was taking off their breastplates. "How did it get so hot?" asked Lewis, out of breath. "Just grin and bear it. We're only going to be here for a bit." said York. He was right. An hour later, they were out of the desert, and re-entering the Indo Ganetic Plain. "What did I tell you?" asked York. Steed was in another truck. "How long now?" asked York, banging on the door of the driver. "A few more hours. I would put your helmets on, we are entering the contaminated areas. To clarify things, I, the writer, and master of the shenanigans these people (i created) will explain the contaminated areas. I will make a blunt statement, World War III was nuclear. Every country on Earth at that time was in the war, and they used nuclear power to fight. This caused the people to go underground for thousands of years while the war raged. When the war ended, scientists began cleaning the radiation. The ares they were not able to get were called the contaminated areas. When people go through it, they have to wear protection. Now back to the story... York stood up, and looked ahead. There was a greenish hue in the distance. "This is it boys. Our campaign has begun." he said. The men cheered, but York had a "lukewarm" feeling about this. "Okay boys, this is where you get out." said the driver. "Fall out, men!" commanded York. They clambered out. York and his men had already put their helmets on. The other trucks were coming to a stop."Commanders, meet me over here!" called Gun. York walked over. "You know what we are going to do. We are waiting for the tank battalion to come. After that, we march to the city limits, and wait for air support." said Gun. "All men, take a gun, fifteen canisters, and report to your commander!" said a Red Cross man. York didn't need that. He had his own weapons. He strapped his rifle to his back, clipped his belt of pistol rounds and the pistol itself across his waist. "Men, get into formation, and follow me to the main line." When the tanks rolled up, the army was ready. Gun trotted up to the lead tank, and clambered into the seat, looking like Patton. "Men, forward march!" he barked. 'Move on!" ordered the commanders in unison. It felt good for York to be back in combat, back commanding his men. By the time they reached the city, it was dark. Gun ordered the men to put up camp. "I will have to call off the air strike until the morning. Everyone try to get some sleep. Tomorrow will be a huge day. Set your suits alarm clock to 4:30 . At 5:00, the air strike will be coming through, then we will invade." The city they were attacking, Kandia, was in the was in the contaminated zone, but it was a major necessity. The city made use of the radiation, so it was a generator city, and an arms building city. Since it was in Neo hands, those resources that were being pumped out daily were going out of the United World Organization, and funding the enemy. It was also a good vantage point for striking an invasion. The next morning, they woke up and got into formation. York got into his position, and heard Gun on the radio. "This is brigadier general Wayne Gun, requesting the air strike on Kandia." Within thirty minutes, the roar of jet fighters, and bombers was becoming louder and louder. Soon, the planes flew right over them, and into the city. Flames, sparks, and smoke rose over the city in a fiery and very large explosion. "Charge!" yelled Gun. The commanders repeated him, and proceeded to do so.York ran forward, pulling his gun off his back, and loading several rounds. Up ahead, gunfire was coming from the city. "fire at will!" commanded Gun, from his tank. The tanks fired at the immediate threats. Some Neo troops were mobilizing York raised his gun, aimed, and fired. One of the soldiers fell back. The rest of his platoon fired with him. They arrived inside the city, just minutes after the charge. many of the buildings were aflame from the air strike. The heat from the flames was stifling. "Storm the buildings!"commanded gun. "Lewis, you take your men into the building up ahead. McKinley, take yours into the left. Steed, right!" ordered York. He took his remaining men into the closest non- burning place. BAM! he kicked the door open, flew to the side, and tossed a grenade in. The dark interior turned yellow, white, and red from the flash of the grenade. The room had been cleared. "Go, Go!" he yelled. His men infiltrated the building, machine guns chattering. The enemy was yelling in German. Within minutes, the flag of the United World Organization flew over the building, as were they everywhere. York had doubted this strategy, but it had actually worked. The next morning, they scored another victory in Ahmadabad. Now, they were marching to Bombay. It was sweltering hot weather. York wanted to take the helmet off, but he knew that was not possible at that time, if he wanted to live. York could see by the slouching of his men, that they were in as much agony as he was. What made it worse, was that they were marching by the Arabian Sea, but they couldn't drink the water. They also were marching on foot, as all the trucks had left them in Kandia "Don't worry boys, brigadier general Wayne Gun says that when we get to Bombay, we will get water." he said, trying to reassure his men. However, they were not to get Bombay. The attack had been a disaster. They had gone in for a charge, but the Neo forces unleashed a new and unknown weapon on them. It was like a lazer, and it cut right through it's victim. "Retreat!" ordered Gun. York wheeled around and ran the other way. But as he began running, his foot was grazed by a bullet, he tripped in pain, and fell unconscious. "Ist das besser?" asked a voice. York shot up. He was in a room full of Neo military commanders. He saw he was out of his suit, and had a bandage across his chest. His foot was fully healed. "You took a nasty fall." said one of the commanders, in a German accent. "What happened?" asked York. "A bullet grazed your foot, and as you fell, the lazer got you, and cut your side open." said the commander. "So, am I a prisoner of war?" asked York, rhetorically. "Ja" said the commander. "Then I can only tell you my name and rank." said York "We know who you are, and we have all the info from your joke of a utopia we need, commander York." said another commander. "Then, what do you want with me?" asked York. "Your leadership is legendary in the borders of the Neo Powers. We want you to train our men." said the commander. "And if I refuse?" asked York. "If you refuse, we will put you to work in the camps, with your injuries, no protection, in the sweltering heat." York didn't waste a second "Okay, show me my men!" After York re suited, he was taken outside to his new men. They were already in attention position, and snapped into a salute and the Neo commanders stepped outside. "This is your new commander, he is our prisoner of war, so he will not try to escape from an army of men with guns." York turned to his captors. "What do they need help in? They are already the envy of my other men." The commanders laughed. "These men cannot shoot, they can't march. Fix it!" And so it was, for several months, York trained the army. He got to know his new men, and found it easier to train them than his other men. One day, during break, York sat by one of his privates, named Hans. His men spoke no English, so York had to forcibly learn German. "So, how is life different in the Neo Powers?" York asked. "Much better than the UWO. We have something you will never get while Pierre D' Lafayette in power- freedom." said Hans. "What do you mean?" asked York. "We all get weapons, we are kinder to lower classes, everyone gets what jobs they choose. Our job bosses give us what wages they want, and if we don't like it, we can get another job. Our homes are chosen and bought by us..." he could have gone on, but York stopped him. "I get it. I would like to see that society, but I don't live there, and when the war is over, I plan to go back to my country." said York. "You know, there is a movement going on in the UWO, it is fueled by the Neo Powers, it is called FUHRER- Future Utopian Human Race Extermination Resistance." said Hans. "They are trying to overthrow D' Lafayette's dictatorship." York was surprised. The propaganda told several lies about them, much more different than what he had been told. For another week, he trained the men. Then, the commanders decided to attack. They were going to march out of the contaminated area. It would be all of the Neo forces in India. They would be attacking the only UWO force in India, York's men and his superiors. It took another week for the neighboring forces to arrive. York was working on a way to escape. When they began the attack, York would "storm" a building, where he would escape from the Neo forces in the confusion. From there, he would get to the embassy (they were going to attack New Dehli, where Gun had had to return for supplies) , where he would catch up to Gun. It was loose, but he could make it work. York was made to march the men to New Dehli the day the attack was launched. The army was huge. Any way York looked, the faces of Neo soldiers met him. He knew his real army, the UWO army, would have no choice but to retreat. These men outnumbered Gun's forces ten to one. Within days, they were out of the contaminated area. It felt good to York to take the suit off. However, he was made to change his uniform from the UWO standard, to the Neo Powers' gray blue uniform. They were very uncomfortable to wear, and he constantly scratched himself. Finally, the day came. The Neo forces charged New Dehli. York took his men in to storm a building, then jumped into another from the rooftop, and escaped to the embassy. The guards fired at him, until he spoke his perfect English to prove he was on their side. They immediately took him in to see gun. "Sir, the Neo Powers are attacking, and we can't hold them back. Yes sir, their entire forces. No sir, nothing is working." said Gun on the phone with Pierre D' Lafayette."If nothing you are doing is working then we will go to the 'Last Resort'. If we can't have the resources India has to offer, no one can. You have until tomorrow to get your men into China, and out of India." said Pierre D' Lafayette. Gun slowly hung the phone up. "York, good of you to pop in like this. I was worried you had died." he said. York walked up to his desk. "What are we going to do?" he asked. "...We are going to retreat out of India, and into China. Our Supreme Leader is going to make the other half of India uninhabitable." York ran outside, yelling, "Retreat! Retreat! Get out of New Dehli, and we will regroup!" York and Gun then ran out of the city together, at the same time getting jeeps and tanks with them. Finally, an hour after the attack began, the UWO army was rolling out of New Dehli, and crossing the Ganges river. Soon after, they were crossing into the Himalayas. York could not stop thinking of all the people who were going to be vaporized in a day's time. They were going to China now, to be reassigned to another front. "Shame we couldn't keep India." said Gun "It had such a beautiful culture." replied York. "Indeed, but there is nothing we can do about it. Okay men, we need to set up camp! We are far away enough." The next morning, they got up early and began moving more into China. York grogilly rubbed his eyes- until an almost blinding flash lit up the dark sky. York quit rubbing, and put his hands over his eyes. Suddenly, a deafening explosion echoed through the mountains. York's hair rippled rapidly and frantically as the shock wave passed over them. The ground that had been New Dehli, and several other cities, dissolved into blackness as the matter down there was vaporized. The army suddenly felt a sharp rise in temperature. The light had gone down some, so York could look over at the blast. The mushroom cloud towered above them. The cloud had a mixture of gray, black, red, yellow, and even purple (this was a new bomb) York shuddered thinking of the now lost culture under that cloud. What was worse, the bombing had not really been needed. York got angry thinking of the other ways they could have defeated the Neo forces in what had been India. York now knew what he had to do when he returned to Metropolis. He was going to find FUHRER. He was going to bring D' Lafayette down. York was still going to fight for him, but when the war ended, he would be fighting on an entirely different front. Tweet
