swarthy pirate who stood grinning and stroking his parrot. 

‘Aaaarrgh!' he ejaculated.  He rushed the pair but was soon impaled on
De Lounge's sword.  Frowning with distaste, De Lounge withdrew it and 
wiped it clean on the fallen man's frock coat. 

The two men stood in front of the Captain's door, uncertain how to
proceed. 

‘It's too strong for us to break down with our swords', announced the
Duc.  We'll need to think of something else.'  But he was speaking to 
thin air.  De Lounge had rushed to the far side of the deck and was 
bent low, fumbling with something the Duc could not see.  When he 
turned again, De Lounge had a smile of triumph on his face. 

‘I have wood!' he cried, holding the thick staff in both hands.  ‘And
I'm prepared to beat it against the door for as long as it takes to get 
the foul seaman out!' 

He strode towards the entrance but before he could beat it even once, a
voice spoke from within the cabin. 

‘Gentlemen', it said.  ‘There is no need for such rough treatment.  If
you will promise not to impale me on your weapons, I will allow you 
entrance to my inner sanctum.' 

The two men stood frozen, a look of amazement on their faces.  Beneath
his tan, De Lounge paled, for he recognised that voice, a voice he had 
never thought to hear again.  No pirate king this, the voice was that 
of a woman.  It was a low, thrilling voice but the accent was not 
French. 

It was Italian.
