Click here to read the first 75 lines of the story Granny used to sing to her, and it was just as she touched the photograph that the humming of the song began. Soon after, Cathy's mum appeared with a tray in each hand. She had baked fresh bread and cooked the most lovely smelling fresh pasta with a rich homemade tomato sauce. The two gazed with delight- no words, just gaze. Their mouths wide and their eyes focused. As they dug into their delicious meal Jessica, Cathy's mum, tried to strike up a conversation. Half an hour they all sat munching and chatting until finally the girls began to get sleepy so they tiredly ambled up the stairs. Cathy rubbed her eyes gently and stretched her arms high in the sky and let out huge yawn. Anna got into her sleeping bag on the floor and they both began to talk to each other, “Hey, I never did get to see that picture of your granny, how ‘bout u try ‘n' find it?” Anna asked. “Okay, I'll have a look, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to find it I've had it for years now it must be quite old.” Replied Cathy with doubt. Cathy slowly ( and tiredly ) began once again to reach for the old photo album on the shelf. “ do you hear that !?” Questioned Anna in shock. The humming had again begun, the closer Cathy's hand got to the pictures, the louder the tune. Then a chair close by with four wheels on the bottom began to spin round and round, before they had left the room to go down the stairs and eat, the chair was bare. But this time it had a pile of chunky biscuits and a note which read: Dear Cathy, I left you this little gift, as it might seem that I have left, I will always be with you in some way, All my love, Grandma Peggy xxx. Cathy wasn't startled or scared and Anna was more confused if anything. “Granny always said she'd be with me. It must have been her. She also always said that people in heaven can come back and see us if they wish.” Told Cathy wisely. “I'm gunna hit the hay, I could sleep through a war.” Anna yawned in desperation. “goodnight Cathy.” “night, night.” Replied Cathy carelessly. Just as she began to close her eyes she felt a wisp of cold air surround her. Then a cold bony hand stroke her face. She awoke to see if her mother wanted something, but much to her surprise there stood dear old Peggy. Outlined in a ghostly glow, hovering just above the ground. “Sweet dreams my dear. I'm always with you.” Cathy thought it was a dream. Then as if she was a puff of smoke, she wisped away and the faint echo of the tune that she would sing to Cathy followed. A chill was sent all the way down to the very bottom of Young Cathy's spine, Cathy rolled over to see if Anna had saw, but by this time Anna was well in the land of dreams - snoring loudly too! So she gave up and went to sleep. The next bright and sunny morning Cathy stretched hard, yawned long and rubbed her eyes over and over, “It was a dream.” She whispered to herself. Anna lifted her head from the floor. “what?” “oh erm nothing, just speaking to myself.” She answered. Cathy glanced over at the chair, still a pile of chunky biscuits, was it just a dream? Tweet
