than his father, and for precisely the reason his father felt him not
ready: Passion.

“My son, I know you have a great heart for your people and for others,
but to rule one must temper his passion with wisdom. They go together
as does justice and mercy.” Chaluta was a strong man and great ruler
and Kanutzu loved him but all too often found himself in disagreement
with him.

“The people have heard of the woman and they want to see her. She has
done nothing wrong.”

“I fully realize that, Kanutzu, but something happened out there and she
is the only one who can shed light on it at least until we can get the
Captain's log translated.”

“Those devils love killing and they probably were fighting over who
among them could ravish her. The Captain probably was protecting her.”

“Then why did he kill himself? Did he have so little control over his
men? A Captain of a ship like that?” Chaluta shook his head. “Until
we get answers the girl stays quarantined. She is being well cared for
I promise you.”

Kanutzu nodded his head. He wasn't about to tell his father he'd been
to see the woman twice in the couple days since she'd arrived. The
guards in front of her door were loyal to him and would die before
betraying him.

“When might we expect word back on the log?”

“A day or two I suppose” answered the King. “I sent it off with a
messenger under strict orders not to break the package's seal. The
linguist in Chichen Itza is supposed to be quite fluent in the
visitors' language.”

“What about the ship?”

“For now it is to stay untouched. If we don't hear something soon we
will set it a fire for sanitary reasons.” His father turned and face
Kanutzu. The clear blue eyes like the sea itself. “The great God
Kukulcan will guide us as always.”

“Yes, Father.”

Later that day, Kanutzu once again visited the woman from the ship. She
was living in the Temple of the Wind, a structure on the far east side
of the city on a peninsula, away from the masses. It was a place the
high priests frequented, but during her stay only Chaluta was allowed
entry or so the King thought. The woman was given ample amounts of
corn and beans as well as juice and water and seemed to be gaining back
her strength. Her accommodations were quite nice, but she was
restricted to them and therefore nothing more than a well cared for
prisoner. He wanted to show her around the village and try harder to
communicate with her. All he'd learned thus far was her name. He
could say her name and she could say his, and Kanutzu loved how his
name sounded in her deep voice.

“Good Afternoon, Lilith,” said Kanutzu as he entered the Temple. She
was standing by the window staring out at the ship. She wasn't shy,
for she had the robe they'd provided her down about her waist allowing
him to see her back, adorned with an intricate tattoo of wings
sprouting up from her backside and covering the back of her shoulders.
The ink looked grayish black against her white skin. Tattoos were part
of the Mayan culture and apparently they were normal for the women of
Lilith's land as well. He wondered what the art meant to her. As she
turned, she pulled her garment up but he still caught a glimpse of her
perfectly formed breasts and nipples before they disappeared. Finally
she smiled at him as she brushed her shiny, black hair back with her
hands. Her eyes were deep brown, almost black. Since meeting her,
Kanutzu could not stop seeing their gaze in his dreams. He believed he
was in love with the beautiful visitor. Soon his father and mother
would venture to purchase him a bride of fine standing, but he wanted
this woman. She was not of his kind, but that didn't matter.

“Kanutzu,” she said softly as she glided across the floor and was
suddenly in his arms. She felt soft and warm in his embrace and her
hair felt silky soft against his face. “You're the only one who has
been kind to me, Kanutzu.”

“Things will get- ” Kanutzu suddenly stopped. “You spoke our language!”
He held her back from him, his hands on her shoulders. “Lilith?”

“I have listened to the guards and learned,” she said quietly, turning
away from him and moving back to the window, gazing out at the sea. A
sudden breeze coming in making her hair dance. “I have a talent for
languages.”

His head spinning with questions and wonderment, Kanutzu didn't know
whether to be thrilled or suspicious. How could anyone learn so
quickly? In their own culture there were linguists who quickly grasped
foreign tongues, but in just a few days and in isolation? Slowly he
moved toward her and touched arm.

“You can tell us what happened now. That will set you free.”

“I wanted to travel across the sea and I stowed away. Once I was
discovered things began to happen. Terrible things.” There were tears
trickling at Lilith's eyes. Kanutzu lovingly brushed them with his
hand. “Men wanted to lay with me and for some reason they went insane.
I was accused of sleeping with two of them and killing them.”

“So they didn't all die fighting each other? Two were killed before?”

Lilith nodded. “In their beds. I was blamed by half of the men, while
the other half seemed obsessed with protecting me.”

Kanutzu remembered the two bodies in their beds with great holes in
their chests. “Men at sea can go mad, or so I've been told. It must
have been terrifying for you.”

Lilith turned and wept quietly in his arms. Kanutzu caressed her back,
trying to be as loving as he could. He needed to know more, however,
so he cautiously pressed on.

“The Captain,” he said. “It looked he cut his throat.” Kanutzu felt
her nod her head against his chest. “Why? Do you have any idea?”

“He blamed himself for the war amongst the men. He was trying to
protect me. As they went further into madness and killed each other,
his own guilt over took him.”

“No concern of leaving you on a ship with nothing but dead men? Were
they all dead when he did this?”

“Kanutzu, please let us not speak of this anymore.”

Before Kanutzu could say anything he felt her lips on his neck.
Lilith's kisses were a mixture of sweet caresses and nibbles. They
felt almost desperate and made him wild with desire for this exotic
creature from a far away land.

“Kiss me, Kanutzu,” she said. Her dark eyes longing as they gazed up at
him. Without hesitation he bent down and kissed her mouth feeling a
rush of pleasure coarse through his body. He wanted her. He wanted to
possess her. Suddenly all he cared about was being with her, but
finally he stopped and eased back from her.

“I can't do this here,” he said. “I want to, but I can't.” Kanutzu
stared at the floor. “It would be a sin, and an especially great sin
inside this temple.” Lilith nodded her head and sat on the small bed in
the room. “Soon I will have you out of here,” he told her. “Now that
you can communicate and we know what happened.”

“They won't believe me,” she said. “Please don't tell them about you
and I communicating. I beg you.”

“Lilith we're waiting for a linguist to translate the Captain's log,
that will take time I think. If you talk to them you can be out of
here today.”

“I prefer to wait for the Captain's log. Please say that you'll keep my
secret.”

“I cannot lie to my father,” said Kanutzu. “If he asks, I will tell
him. He doesn't know, however, and I will not volunteer the
information.” He couldn't fathom why Lilith wasn't willing to speak
for herself now that she could.

“Thank you,” she replied. Her eyes looked up at him again, still dark
but lively and hopeful. “You dream about me, don't you?”

Kanutzu was taken aback still again by this mysterious and breathtaking
woman. His face flushed as he tried to stammer out an answer.

“It's okay,” she said with a warm smile. “I have dreamt about you these
past nights as well. I will come to you in your dreams if you like.”

“You already do,” he said to her. Kanutzu walked over and took Lilith's
hand and kissed it. “This will be over soon. I have so much to share
with you. I must go now, but I will see you soon. Is there anything
you need?”

Lilith shook her head and Kanutzu left the Temple of the Wind. On his
way out he stopped to talk with the guards.

“Have you two been talking while on duty?”

“No, Sir,” said the oldest of the two. “Certainly not.”

Kanutzu smiled and nodded. They must have been lying, of course, but he
was so happy he was hardly going to press the matter.

In Chichen Itza, the old linguist, Pusumayi, could hardly believe what
he was reading in the Captain's log. His hands trembled as he wrote a
quick note to Chaluta and summoned the messenger. He did his best to
hide his fear as he told the messenger to get back to Tulum as soon as
possible and to give the message to nobody other than Chaluta himself.
When the messenger hurried off, the old linguist dropped to his knees
and prayed to Kukulcan and all the gods as if his very life depended on
it.

The rest of the day after visiting Lilith, Kanutzu avoided his father,
for he knew all too well Chaluta's ability to see through even the most
formidable walls of deception. That night he stayed out late at the
temples praying, but more just trying to outlast his parents. When he
returned to the family abode, they were sound asleep. His mind raced
with images of Lilith and the connection he'd found with her.
Everything would be worked out soon and he would be able to take her
for his bride. Try as he might, he couldn't sleep, tossing and turning
until at last he began to feel his eyes getting heavy. The cool breeze
coming in his window helped him sleep.

Later, Kanutzu found himself awake but groggy. A weird feeling of
chilled adrenaline stopped his heart when he saw a figure by his
window. Outlined in the pale moonlight was the unmistakable form of
Lilith. Her long hair flowing, the curves of her body easily viewed
under the robe as it blew against her. He could barely speak. It
wouldn't do for his father to find her here. How did she get out in
the first place? Slowly she came toward him and he could smell the
sweet scent of perfume in the air. It was an aura unlike any he'd ever
experienced. His hands ached to touch her and without a word he reached
out and felt her warm soft hand take his. He went to speak her name
but the words wouldn't come. It was as if he was choking but the
sensation was that of pleasure, not fear. Somehow he'd lost control of
his senses but didn't care. For an instant the room spun and he felt
dizzy but then found himself kissing Lilith's moist, sweet lips. The
beautiful woman was on top of him, floating above him somehow, and his
hand moved over her hips. The robe was suddenly gone, allowing his
hands to caress the soft skin of the woman of his dreams. He had no
idea how any of this was possible but he didn't want it to end. Before
he realized what was happening, she was moving down on to his body with
a fluid grace and took him inside her. Never had Kanutzu known such
ecstacy, he tried to cry out with joy but again the sound would not
come. All he could do was stare at Lilith as she moved her body back
and forth, a satisfied smile on her angelic face. Her hands gripped
his chest, pinching his tight flesh as she moved faster and faster. It
was an incredible sensation of orgasmic delight that wouldn't end. It
went on and on until he felt weak and dizzy again. There was pain and
pleasure and it seemed to be stealing his strength. Suddenly he was
afraid he was going to die. He was terrified. He tried desperately to
get her to stop, but he was under her power now. The dark eyes that
had so captivated him were now a bright red as she leaned her head back
and laughed. When she again looked at him, the soft beauty was gone,
replaced by a hideously pale, gray face. Behind her grew long,
leathery wings. Kanutzu was still climaxing over and over and his
heart ached from its rapid pounding. Her hand was now on his head,
holding his forehead in a grip from hell.

In the grip of the demon now controlling him, Kanutzu could see what
happened on the ship. The men had indeed gone mad and fought each
other over fear as well as lust due to the visitor that had stowed away
on the ship. She was finally locked in the captain's cabin but still
attacked them in their dreams. The men wanted to either kill her or
ravish her and blamed her for the deaths of two men in their beds.
Kanutzu could see her doing to them what she was doing to him. It was
as if he was inside Lilith's head and she was inside his. It was
possible to lock her up, but impossible to keep her for long. Once she
knew a man wanted her, she could escape through his dreams. After the
men on the ship were dead, and the captain cut his throat, she was
helpless. Lilith was over a thousand years old, however, and possessed
darkly divine patience. Kanutzu was now frozen with terror but could
do nothing. He felt his own thoughts and knowledge being drained from
his head. The last image he saw from inside Lilith's head was her
attempt at seducing his father and failing. Kanutzu cursed himself as
he felt his last breaths escape his body. Then she finally spoke to
him.

“Kanutzu,” she said, still moving over him, draining him with a deadly
sexual grip. “You will sustain me for a long time. Those sailors were
in terrible shape, but you.......oh..........oh yes.......”

Kanutzu's head was filled with images and visions. He could see a
messenger desperately trying to reach Tulum, but he was at least a day
away.

Lilith then moved her clawed-hand off his cold, sweaty brow and plunged
it into his chest. The pain shot through Kanutzu's body as he felt her
rip out his still-beating heart. She took a bite out of it as she
floated up off his body. The last thing he saw before he died was
Lilith flying out through his window into the moonlight.

The Succubus found a place to rest in the forest to digest her meal.
She'd wanted to come to the New World and using the ship was the
perfect way to do it. Now she was here and at her feet were thousands
of victims without knowledge of her kind who would be oh so easy to
seduce and feed upon.
