Sometimes when you least suspect it, and think you least need it, that 'next' love appears. | |||
Click here to read the first 75 lines of the story partly in her purse, “I meant that you owe me seventy thoughts.” “I don't want to ruin your day.” Julie pulled her hand from her purse but not from under Michael's nice strong hand. She simply moved her own hand from under his and placed it on top of his feeling the soft blond hairs that covered it. “You've been too nice to do that to you.” “I don't think there's anything you could say other than go away that would ruin my day right now.” Michael removed his hand from under Julie's, held it out in a manner for a handshake above the table as he finished, “Michael Eugene Edwards.” “Julie,” Julie didn't hesitate to allow her hand to return to the warmth of it's previous contact, “Julie Ann,” she hesitated while deciding on how to finish, “well for the time being,” she hesitated again looking away for some reassurance, “Simmons.” “I'm delighted to meet you,” Michael so slightly tightened his grip on the soft hand in his, “Julie Ann Simmons. I take it that Mr. Simmons has lost the pleasure of your company.” “I don't think,” Julie nodded her head back and forth as she was speaking, “Mr. Simmons was really ever pleased with my company. He tried to change me from the second we were married.” “Well,” Michael hesitated fearing he might seem to be getting too personal but decided to finish, “why did he want you in the first place?” “Celebration, security,” Julie tried to think of more words that might fit then decided to simply explain, “I was his lawyer when he divorced his ex wife. I was available to fill the void that his divorce created. I should have known better.” “Julie Ann,” Michael looked at this very pretty young woman across from him, “just what could he possibly have wanted to change about you?” “Well,” Julie grinned bashfully as she realized what she was about to reveal and even chuckled a little as she finished, “these.” Julie reached with both hands and placed them just under her chest. “He demanded that I get enhancement.” “What a loser!” Michael grinned back at Julie. “I really don't get it about men who are so focused on large breasts. But then, to each his own I suppose.” “Yes,” Julie leaned forward and now had her hands on top of her shirt covering her breasts, “but these weren't his own,” she patted them to emphasize her remarks, “they're my own and I like them just the way they are.” “And,” Michael nodded his agreement, “a lot of men would like them just the way they are as well.” “And,” Julie lowered her hands and with her right hand reached over and placed it on Michael's right hand, “would you be one of those men?” “Of course,” Michael smiled mischievously and couldn't resist glancing again at Julie's chest, “I enjoy each woman for her unique individuality.” “Aw,” Julie now spoke with the trained confidence of an attorney, “so politically correct, Michael Eugene Edwards.” “Well thank you Julie Ann,” Michael stopped in mid sentence and blushed slightly before adding, “I'm sorry Julie but I've forgotten your last name already.” “Well,” Julie grinned and enjoyed the boyish embarrassment on Michael's face, “I'm trying to as well, so don't worry about it.” “Are you going to use your previous name now?” Michael thought a second before adding, “How long have you been divorced?” “Goodness no,” Julie shook her head then realized that this was as good an opportunity to be open and complete as any, “in fact my two previous names aren't in my list of favorites at all.” Julie felt relieved to have those cards out on the table then realized that she hadn't addressed his second question. “Michael, I just came from the courthouse less than an hour ago.” “No wonder you looked so depressed.” Michael let his hand slip out from under Julie's and placed it gently on top of hers. “Maybe I shouldn't be bothering you now.” “No,” Julie was very quick to assure Michael that he wasn't bothering her at all, “not at all, Michael. I'm really glad you smiled at me.” Julie suddenly thought back to that first smile. “How did you do that anyway? How did you get me to smile?” “It's a knack.” Michael admitted, “It's something I realized years ago that I could do.” Michael considered leaving it at that but since Julie was being so open and honest with him he figured he owed her the same. “I guess it's just sort of a hobby of mine. I enjoy going out and finding people who don't look like they could ever smile and seeing if I can draw one out of them. I usually just smile and go on.” “Why didn't you simply go on this time?” Julie spoke very seriously. “You were just too beautiful to pass up.” Michael answered with complete honesty. “I don't meet women who I find as attractive as you that often. I wasn't about to regret losing that opportunity late tonight and not be able to sleep.” “Doesn't it bother you that I'm so lousy at finding love?” Julie sounded like she was apologizing to Michael for her failures. “You may be lousy at finding the right lovers,” Michael looked deeply into Julie's brown eyes, “but I suspect that you've yet actually ever found love.” “You're probably right, Michael.” Julie looked back into the incredible blue eyes of this man she'd only met a short time ago. “I guess I just haven't met the man I will really find love with yet.” As she spoke the words she wondered if she would discover that what she'd just said would prove out to be incorrect. “It's nearly one o'clock,” Michael glanced at his watch and realized that neither of them had touched the coffee that was now cold, “would you like to go someplace nicer for a bite to eat and maybe something more stimulating to drink?” “I'd enjoy that very much,” Julie didn't hesitate to reply, then after a second's delay added, “kind sir.” “And,” Michael felt he needed to add, “I don't want you to think I'm trying to take advantage of a Damsel in distress here.” “Hey, Michael,” Julie stood up as Michael was doing, “I'm an attorney, if you recall, and not likely to say you're taking advantage of me.” She began walking towards the exit with Michael beside her, leaned into him and spoke quietly in his ear. “And, I just bet Mr. Simmons is out celebrating somewhere as we speak.” “You know the sun gives new life to everything.” Michael squinted and covered his eyes, just as Julie was doing, as they exited the mall into the bright sunlight. “Sometimes a seed can sprout in the most unexpected places and grow to be the mightiest of trees.” Michael stopped, took Julie by the hand and pulled her to him. The shade from each other allowed them to shield their eyes from the sun and look deeply into each other's being. Michael, feeling no resistance, pulled Julie even closer and bent down to allow his lips to touch her tentatively. Julie got up on tiptoes and met Michael's lips and returned the kiss to insure him that it had been more than wanted. “Well,” Julie spoke sweetly when their lips finally parted and they allowed their bodies to separate as well, “we have lots of time to see it grow, don't we?” Tweet
