get off the swing to follow her, but it was as if he were glued.
Desperately, he struggled to unclasp his hands from the rope, to set
his feet on solid ground, but he could only watch helplessly as she
walked towards the house.

Out of his desperation, he cried out, "Desiree." The sound of his voice
in the stillness of the night awoke him and he looked around himself in
startled amazement. His feet were on the swing and he was hanging on
to the rope, but Desiree was nowhere in sight. Almost afraid to try,
he began to dismount from the swing. This time, there was no problem
getting off and he almost kissed the ground.

When he walked into the entryway, his nose crinkled, he smelled dead
flowers. Then he stepped on something soft and reached down to find a
little flower. Picking it up, he felt suddenly sick to his stomach, it
was a decaying daisy just like the one that had been sitting in
Desiree's hair in his dream. Horrified, he threw the flower away and
fled to his room, trying to battle the illogical fears and thoughts
that were dancing in his head.

His sleep was tormented for the rest of the night, haunted with memories
and new fears to come. Repeatedly, he awoke and found himself soaked
in sweat and terrified of the shadows in his room. When he awoke to
find sunlight pouring in his room, he was never more thankful for the
morning. After the previous night, he was now more than ever
determined to find out what family tragedy had chased the previous
owners from their home. With that in mind, he began to get dressed.
