and quickly rode off in to the setting sun.

“Thank the lord he sent you to save us,” exclaimed the distraught wife.

“ It always a pleasure to help the needy,” Luc replied quite happily.

“This is my elder son Jim who is thirteen, Molly who is ten, next is
Mary and Jacob who are both eight and last Sophia who is five,”
introduced the battered woman, “and I’m Mistress Baker.”

Sophia shyly approached Luc. Handing her a potato she scurried back to
her mother.

The next day Dancer was full of energy and refused to trot and instead
pleased herself at a quicker canter and purposely crossed a few jumps.
Luc once in awhile gave Dancer a nudge to keep her from wondering. As
they came upon a fork in the trail Luc looked at to see so many hoof
prints with one set deeper than the others. Examining them carefully,
she remembered her mother and the kidnapper only rode one horse and the
heavier the load the deeper the print. Quickly she turned right giving
Dancer and Arrow a sudden jolt.

By nightfall her stomach growled like a fierce boar. Desperately she
hunted in blindness finally finding a dead carcass

of a deer, most probably killed by a fox. Resting down to eat she
realized she would have to eat it raw since she didn’t know how to
build a fire.

In the morning Luc loaded the carcass onto Dancer’s back. As they walked
Arrow flapped his wings to cool himself and to keep the flies away. On
her way she met a knight who challenged her to a fight. Not willing to
let her pass he drew his sword so the fight began. Helplessly she
defended herself clumsily.

Finally in desperation she made an n attempt to strike him. As the sword
slashed his hair he yelped and pleaded for mercy. Seeing him cry she
spared his life in return for his welsh pony Sky.

Sky the pony seemed quite pleased to be finally rid of the cowardly
knight.

Riding on she met a pilgrim traveling on a donkey. Kindly he greeted her
then passed her quite grimly.

Riding through the night, Luc finally noticed a glowing campfire and
realized she had caught up with her mother.

Quietly she crept up to a nearby bush where she saw her mother happily
eating a hare while chatting to the silent knight. Furious Luc stomped
up to her mother crying, “What are you doing?”

Her mother quite shocked replied “What are you doing here? Where is your
father?”

“He’s not here I came to rescue you,” Luc answered trying to calm down.

Explaining to her daughter that she had planned to escape from Luc’s
father to live with her brother (Lord Merton) who sent a knight to
kidnap her away.

Sighing Luc sat down and gladly ate a hare the unknown night passed to
her. As she slept, the knight crept up to her and holding a dagger
lashed out at her Luc just as she rolled over.

Reacting with confusion she kicked him in the leg making him lose his
balance. Pulling off his hood it revealed Sir Charles Beagle Lady Uma’s
old bow that was banished from Lord Martin’s land for he had tried to
kidnap lady Uma before.

Grabbing Lady Uma’s hand he galloped off.

Luc knew she needed help so she galloped on the trail until she came to
Lord Merton’s castle. Knocking wildly Lady Jenny finally answered the
great door. Bewildered by the news Lord Merton gathered all his knights
and started to follow Luc.

They found Sir Charles waiting for them in a clearing. Giving the signal
to charge the battle began. Trying to reach her mother Luc sent Arrow
to search. Seeing her mother’s frightened face she tried to comfort
her.

Suddenly an arrow came from Sir Charles’s bow. Luc knew it was meant to
hit her mother so no one could have her. Blocking the arrow Luc felt a
soft thud on her body.

Falling off her horse Luc hit the ground

Unconscious. Arrow seeing her master fall he knew she would be trample
to death. Quickly he retrieved her to a safer place. Rushing over to
her daughter Lady Uma pulled the arrow out.

Luc struggling to keep herself from fading into the darkness she cried
out softly “ I am Luc Brave and Might...
