A nosy neighbor decided that something is not right about Fred making Yard Statues in his spare time. Possibly Murder. | |||
Click here to read the first 75 lines of the story Frieda Jenson, let the curtains drop. Her neighbor was at it again. It was suspicious how his family had vanished, three of them and then three concrete animals appearing, all about the same time. “I'll bet they're in the statures.” She thought. “I wonder who the elephants for?” The lady had been a Meter Maid when younger, and considered herself to be an ex-cop. She still kept her old uniform in top condition just in case she would be needed again. She had even saved and scrimped to buy herself an Official Police Revolver. She kept her eye on the murderer, and wrote copious records of his activities. When they arrested him she would be ready. When she had to leave her house for any reason she started a video camera in her attic window. She often called the police, just to keep him worried. Maybe she could catch him doing something rash. It would have to be quick, she decided. Sometimes she would wake up and forget who she was. It would take her a little while to remember. That was why she left notes all over the house. To remind her of those things, and help her remember. ****** One night, when he was waiting for the sixth statue to dry, Fred heard one hell of a racket out in his back yard. He looked out to see a woman dressed like a police officer smashing his statues with a large hammer. She finished shattering the Lion, just as he got to her. “Let me go, you murderer.” Frieda struggled. “I'll prove you killed them.” “What are you talking about?” Fred had his hands full with the struggling old lady. “Who did I kill?” “Your family, you murderer.” She cried. “HELP, Police.” When she stopped struggling and he let her go. She pulled out a big revolver and started in again. “You're under arrest, you hear me, raise your hands, Now.” A puzzled Fred raised his hands, just as the back yard filled with real Police. “I got him, I already arrested the Murderer.” She told them, waving the gun around. “You got him, All right now give me the gun.” Johnny instructed her. “We need it for evidence. We'll take over now.” Frieda grinned and handed the gun over. “We finally got you. Murderer.” “Now, Ladi....Frieda, you have to come with us to the station.” The Police Seargent told her. “We need your statement.” All of the Police left with Frieda, leaving just Officer Arrenson and Fred. Johnny walked over to the decimated Lion and nudged a few pieces around. “I guess she finally cracked up.” He said. “I didn't think she was dangerous though. So she thought you had killed your wife, eh?” “Come on in the house a minute, Johnny. I want to show you something.” The two went back to the living room. While Johnny was pouring drinks for them both Fred went over to the telephone. He pressed the ‘rewind' button and waited a minute for a ‘clack'. Pressing the play button gave them a message from his wife. She had settled in Phoenix, Arizona and wanted the back alimony. The men had a couple of drinks and pondered Frieda's fate. Johnny finally left and Fred went to bed, for a peaceful sleep. Nobody noticed the slow seeping of blood from the remains of the Lion statue. Tweet
