Inside the mind of an employee at a hat shop on a Saturday afternoon. | |||
Click here to read the first 75 lines of the story again for a “retry,” I dumped Sam like a ton of bricks. Cruel yes, but you can only take so many love letters with misspellings. It's one of my greatest pet peeves. Twenty-five minutes to go. I'm getting pretty hungry too. I'm craving Mexican, but after hearing the rumors about that place, I'm not sure I would like to eat there. Mom told me that she had heard from a friend of a friend that works for the health department, that the workers are completely unsanitary. They never wash their hands, not even after using the bathroom, which is totally disgusting. Pots and pan are never washed thoroughly, and the extra salsa that they pour out to you when you get there is all dumped back into the jar to be reused. I can share germs, I do everyday with people close to me, but sharing germs with the whole county, now that's a whole other story. I would do Taco Bell, but I hear that's even worse. Maybe I'll just cook my own stuff. Windows are clean, now it's back to my chair to stare some more at all those rumors walking by. I see Erica walk by with her long time boyfriend Dirk. They were the typical cute high school couple. Erica was the captain of the cheerleading squad, so it suits that Dirk was the star football player. I did hear a nasty rumor about them just recently from when they were in high school. An act of fornication led to pregnancy for Erica, and as soon as she found out, her Mom took her to an abortion clinic in another state. Her mothers' reasoning was that a baby would get in the way of Erica's dream as a Division 1 cheerleader, and Dirk's dream of being a Division 1 football player. Ironic thing is, they both ended up staying at home going to the community college. Ain't that a doozie. Fifteen minutes left. That works out to three songs, each five minutes long. Now, if they're good songs, time will go by even faster. Oh, this is a good song, it's Justin Timberlake. I must admit though, I enjoy hearing about the rumors of his love life more than I do listening to his music. I don't know what my fascination is with celebrities and their love lives. I'm not a big “Ben and J-Lo” fan because she falls in love too much. When it comes to Justin and Britney though, I want to know all about it. The scandalous videos, and fighting each other with lyrics in songs. I don't know if I like it more because it gives me a sense that they are really human, or if I love that they are miserable. That would make me a sad, sad human being. Look, all that thought has gotten me down to about five minutes to go. I begin to shut off all the lights and lock the back door. I parked out front so other people can see me leave. I've always been a little scared of someone abducting me while getting into my car ever since it happened to Maggie, a girl I graduated high school with. Well at least that is the story. There were no witnesses to the abduction and rumor is that she ran off with the softball coach. Her parents, being in so much denial, came up with this story because it didn't shame them as much. And the fact that Coach Murray left town around the same time the “abduction” took place is just a little too coincidental. Okay, shutting down two minutes before 4:30 isn't going to kill anybody, and besides, I'm too hungry to wait any longer. Cash register is checked out, money is in the safe, and all the rumors are safe with me. I'm outta here. Tweet
