Have you ever heard a story about vampires?” he asked as he noticed the scared look on her face turn to an angry one. “Is this a joke? Did Chad send you to do this? Well, tell him I am not sleeping with him!” she said as she started to turn away. Bad approach, he thought to himself as he grabbed her arm. “What the-“ “You have to listen to me. You are in danger, the Vamp Clan is after you!” he said watching her turn really mad. “Leave me alone!“ She said as he finally grabbed her and put a cloth soaked in chloroform over her face. A few minutes later, she woke up handcuffed to the door handle on the inside of his car. She started to cry. “Please don't cry, I just need to talk to you, it is very important, and I don't want you to get hurt.” He said as she stared forward with tears rolling down her face. He felt sorry for her, she had no idea what was going on. “Its okay, please say something.” He said reaching to wipe a tear off her face. She suddenly jerked away. “What do you want with me? I won't sleep with you, you know,” She said, obviously used to saying this. “No, I would never suggest that, I just need you to listen to me, and believe what I am saying.” She was scared to death. At first he looked like a normal guy, but now he had terrified her. “In California, there is a colony of vampires, whose leader goes by the name of Mocdar. They usually prey sporadically, groups, sometimes even small communities at one feeding. But every so often they choose one victim to take, and they choose it very carefully. Sometimes their motives are very hard to figure out. My sister went missing almost a year ago, and I believe these bastards took her, but I have no idea why. I have been hunting them ever since, hoping on their demise, hoping that maybe it will set my sister free, if she isn't already dead.” He explained as she noticed him dropping his head. “Why have I never heard of people getting killed by vampires before?” she asked as she finally looked at him. “They are covered up. People, meaning the police department as well as the government, don't want widespread panic, so they blame it on murderers and gangs. But there was a leak in the ring of secrecy, to my friend Barry, who knew that my sister went missing and let me in on it. Barry's father works in the CIA and he heard him talking about it on the phone with his boss.” He said noticing he wasn't convincing her too well. “They are after you, Emily.” As she looked up, she question him, “How do you know this, are you psychic or something? Why would they want me?” “These vamps have some sort of connection with the scent of their victims, some sort of telegenetic bond that can be tracked with the right computer equipment. Barry is a genius with computers, so he tracks ‘em, I kill ‘em. We still don't know everything there is to know about these guys; we've just only recently discovered them.” She just sat there, going over these crazy thoughts in her head and wondering if this creep was going to rape her, or kill her or both. She thought he was absolutely out of his mind. “Let me prove it to you. I am gonna take you somewhere, please trust me. Here is my cell phone, call one of your friends and tell them that you will be back soon, but don't tell them anything.” He said as he pulled onto a side road and then onto a dirt road that led to some old caves that were among the Krampton Mountains. They soon stopped, and were completely surrounded by tall, hovering trees and a light fog. Emily was scared more now than ever before. She just thought to herself, “this is it, this is where he is gonna kill me.” Tears started rolling down her face as Nick opened her door to let her out. “Emily, its okay, I won't let anything happen to you.” He said wiping her tears and handing her a huge metal pipe. Should she knock him out with it and run? Or was he telling the truth. “ You are about to see some pretty freaky shit, so stay close to me and don't let go of my hand. When I tell you to swing that pipe, do it and don't hesitate.” Nick was carrying a couple of steel stakes in one hand as he took her small hand in the other and let her deeper into the mountain. She felt numb, and she had no idea what was going on, or what she was about to see. They soon entered a dark cave with an opening about the size of a doorway. “I'm scared, I don't want to go, please let me go home!” she said breaking into tears. “I won't tell anyone that you kidnapped me, just let me go!” she said now pleading with him. “Emily, I am not kidnapping you! Please, I will not let you go, you have to see this, trust me!” “I don't even know you!” She said crying even harder. “Please just trust me; I need you to pay attention in here. Look at me, I won't let anything happen to you!” he said pulling her chin up and giving her a sympathetic look. At that moment she started to trust him a little, and she could see the sincerity in his dark eyes. The two entered the musky, wet cave. As they did, they heard a rustling not far in the distance. Nick squeezed Emily's hand harder as she felt her legs go numb with fear. She started to shiver from the coldness in the cave and the fact that she still had a uniform on. Nick took off his top shirt and put it around her to warm her up. “Okay, get ready” he whispered as he took out the heavy flashlight and shone it towards a corner of the den. There laid a dead dear, and feeding on it, the most gruesome creature she had ever seen. It quickly transformed into human form and flashed its vampire teeth as it hissed in reaction to the bright light. Emily screamed with fear as she tried to turn and run. Nick held tightly onto her hand and pulled her back to his side. Just then two other creatures joined him. “Well, if it isn't this week's specialty,” one of them said pointing toward Emily, who stood there in shock. “Young boy, are you one of us, or do you just need a favor and thought you would bring us a sacrifice?” he asked moving closer to them keeping his eye on Emily. “She looks so tasty,” he added. She was still crying and stepped back as her heart beat loud enough for them all to here. “No, I am not one of you, I came to kill you, and send Mocdar a message.” Nick said as he stabbed him with the stake before he finished his sentence. He melted like a piece of ice in the desert as the the other two vampires stepped back in fear. Emily shrieked in fear, dropping the pipe that Nick gave her and trying to pull away from him. “Emily, stop! Stay here or you will die!” Nick yelled at her as she reluctantly stopped fighting him. “You know, boy, that just down the cave there are more of us, we outnumber you,” one said laughing quietly. “That's why I brought supplies,” He said as he took out a lead granade and threw it down the cave as he jerked Emily toward the exit. The two vampires started to run that way, but didn't make it in time to escape the explosion. It threw Nick and Emily to the ground as he tried to cover her as much as possible from the falling debris. “Are you okay? Those guys in there were a few of Mocdar's spy groups that let him in on the local happenings, but they aren't allowed to harm humans unless need be.” he said they both stood up and brushed themselves off. “This can't be happening to me! She said as she started to cry again and walk towards the car. “Emily, wait!” “Take me home, now. I have seen enough. I want to go home.” She said demandingly. “You can't. They will be here in less than a day; you have to stay with me. We have to keep moving until we find out why they are after you, and stop them.” He said catching up with her and standing in front of her. “This is crazy! I don't want to believe any of it and I don't want a part of it. Take me home!” Emily screamed as she looked up to Nick. She knew he was telling the truth, but she didn't want to face the reality. “I will knock you out again. You have to believe me and you have to cooperate. Get in the car.” He demanded as she put her hands on her hips. “No. I will walk home, you freak. You can stay out here and play with your little freak circus but I am going home, and taking a hot bath and-“ Nick had her down in a matter of seconds with the help of a little more chloroform. “ I have her, man she's a feisty little thing. She still doesn't believe, even after the cave incident. EAT, midnight, man. See ya then,” Nick told Barry over his cell. He glanced over at her, lying in the front seat passed out. He smiled and pulled back onto the interstate. She woke up fighting. “You asshole! Take me home now!!” “ We don't have much time. We have to get there, and soon.” Nick said sleepy from the late driving. It was almost midnight. “I am not staying in this uniform much longer! I need more clothes! And a bath!!” she said now getting mad. “We have to head towards Genove, Pennsylvania. I want you to call one of your friends and your mom, and let them know that you have to go out of town for a while, not to worry, that you will be back soon. I promise you can bathe and rest soon, but we must get far enough ahead, and we must go now!” he said pulling her to the car. He didn't mind the cheerleading uniform, he thought it was cute. “Pennsylvania is across the country! It will take forever to get there! And if these vampires or whatever they are called are so powerful, why can't they just appear and kill whoever?” she said playing 20 questions with him. “They have to have a connection with their victims, and the closer they are physically to the victims, the stronger the connection gets. I told you, they are not like the vampire stories you normally hear about. And Pennsylvania holds the only sacred temple left with enough power to protect you and kill them. But we have to get you there.” “Have you not ever been there before?” “Ive never had to take anyone there to save them, we just recently got the computer equipment to tell us who the next victim would be, so you are my first,” he said with a mischievious half grin. “Typical guy,” she said noticing the comment and smile. “Hey, I am a good guy, I am saving your ass aren't I?” he said turning onto the interstate. “I didn't ask you to do anything with my ass,” she said turning to look out the window as he grinned again. He loved that aggressive attitude. After driving about 2 ½ hours, they pulled up to a nice two story home. “Where are we?” Emily asked sleepily. “This is Barry's house. This is where our equipment is.” “Is he rich or something?” she asked admiring the beautiful house. “His father is. This was his graduation present after he got his Master's degree in Computer Engineering by the time he was only 23. Lucky bastard, he is.” He said opening her door for her and leading her inside. There, they were greeted by a buoyant black man, around 5'8 with a small muscular build. “Hi, I am Barry. Sorry this involves you, but we are doing our best to get you out of it. Make yourself at home, are you guys hungry?” he asked showing Emily the kitchen and bathroom. As Emily shut the door to the bathroom, Barry pulled Nick aside quickly. “Nick, you need to see what I just found on the radar. Mocdar's guys are stopping around Pancha, Nevada for a feeding, it looks like, so it buys you some time. I need to ask Emily some questions soon to try to figure out why they are after her. But this scares me, they are travelling light, and very slow. Their behavior is uncharacteristic, yet their powers seem to be evolving. You two need to stay here tonight, let me research Emily's background a little, and then get going by daylight.” He said as Nick agreed. Just then Emily returned looking a little relieved. “So when can I get more clothes?” she asked. “There is a Wal-mart store about a mile from here. Nick, why don't you take her to get what she needs. Here, use my credit card, I insist.” He said as he handed it to him and pushed them toward the door. “ I will muster up something for you to eat by the time you get back.” He said shutting the door behind them. “I can pay for my own clothes,” Emily said as they pulled out of Barry's driveway. “With what, your looks? You don't have anything with you but the clothes that you have on. He doesn't mind, he loves to help people.” “Well, I will pay him back. What do you mean with my looks, smart ass?” she said curling her nose up. “You look cute mad,” he said smiling and starting to laugh at her. “You know you are beautiful, that's all I meant, don't get defensive.” He said seriously. “I'm not beautiful, if I were, someone would be with me.” She said sadly. “What is that suppose to mean? I saw a lot of guys talking to you at the game, you blew them off.” “When guys ask me out they only want one thing. I have never been in a long relationship because I can't find a guy who wants more than sex.” She said. “So what does that have to do with you being beautiful?” he asked confused. “Because that is what they see first, that is what attracts jerks, not nice guys. A nice guy would look at the inner me.” She said defensively. “Yes, but attraction of the outside has a lot to do with it too. A nice guy can be physically attractive to a girl before he gets to know her. You are stereotyping all guys, that is not fair.” He said as she sat quietly. “You will find the right person, I am sure of it.” He said comforting her as she rolled her eyes. Just then they pulled into a local Wal-Mart. “I hope you don't mind clothes that are not name brand,” he said looking at her. “Now you are stereotyping me,” she said offended. He rolled his eyes and led her inside. It didn't take her long, as she hated shopping and they headed home. When they got there, Emily decided to take a long bath. This day had almost been unbearable. After dinner, Barry and Nick went into the computer room to do research. “We need to talk to Emily and find out all about her before we can figure out their motivation towards her. But in the meantime, here is the indicator of where they are. They are camped out around some desert caves near the town of Jacob's Crossing.” As the two studied the maps and analyzed the layouts, Emily found her way to them. “So this is your little play toys.” She said as she startled them both. “Sorry. Gosh you're both so jumpy,” she said standing next to the chair Nick was sitting in. He noticed how good she smelt, and as the side of her leg brushed against his, he noticed how soft and smooth she was. “Emily we need to kind of interview you, so we can attempt to find out why they want you. So, first of all, what is your full name?” “IsaEmily Lane Calvert” “Good, now what is your mother's maiden name and your paternal grandmother's maiden names?” “ Is this a damn pop quiz or something?” she sighed as they waited for her answer. “Jennsen, and Leftwhich.” She anwered patiently as she noticed Nick softly watching her. “Now, has there ever been a questionable death in your family, or maybe a mysterious dissappearance?” he asked. “None that I can remember.” She answered. “Have you ever been in an abusive relationship, or a long term intimate relationship?” he asked not looking up from the computer to notice her glancing toward Nick. “No, I have never been intimate with anyone.” After about an hour of questioning Barry suggested they go to bed while he did more research. Nick escorted her to a room and camped right outside the door to secure the room. Barry stayed up all night to research, and as he was about to give it up, he came across a scary fact that for the year that they have been doing this, must have gone overlooked. Barry almost fell out of his chair as he hurredly went to wake Nick up. “I can't believe this. It is worse than we thought.” Barry said. “Are you sure that she is not lying?” Barry asked. “How should I know? How can you tell?” “ I suppose you are right. We have to ask her again,” “ I will, let me.” Nick said as he went into her bedroom. It was almost time for the sun to come up, and the small rays of light smoothed across her face. He thought she looked so beautiful laying there asleep, but this was strictly business, he couldn't fall for her, his life was too messed up to bring her into it. “Emily, wake up,” he said softly startling her. “I am sorry, you are okay, you are safe,” he said comforting her. “ I need you to be honest with me, okay?” Nick asked as he watched Emily try to get awake. “I haven't lied to you yet,” she said sleepily. “Are you a virgin?” he asked seeing her grow angry. “What do you mean?” “Please answer me, its important” he said as she settled down a bit. “Yes, I am, so what?” she said beginning to get defensive again. Nick let out a huge sigh and put his head into his hands. “Nick, what is wrong?” she asked. “ Barry found something out about why the vamps want you. Each year, Mocdar and his clan perform a ritual, to boost their powers and cleanse their veins. They choose an innocent virgin, one that is pure with little or no sexual experience whatsoever, and they sacrifice her by drinking the blood from her naval.” He said noticing another one of her cynical facial expressions. “So, I guess this means that I have to sleep with you, huh? This is getting ridiculous. Take me home now or I will call the cops and tell them about the little game you are playing with me,” she was obviously very annoyed and he was growing frustrated with her attitude. “You are being a bitch. I am trying to save you and you are acting like a child. Do you want to die? I didn't say you had to sleep with me or anyone else, I was just telling you the information that we found out. This is why they are after you, so if you want to give up, go ahead, and then these vampires will keep killing other innocent people.” He was very annoyed. This made her cry. “So, either way I lose,” she said. “I am gonna do my best not to let any of it happen.” He said. “Who the hell am I suppose to sleep with? And do you know about all of the diseases going around? And what about the emotional attachment you get when you are so intimate with someone?” She said sobbing. “You don't have to, you know, it just serves as a safety net.” he said calming down a bit as it seemed like she was starting to believe him. “Just forget it all, take me to Mocdar, use me as bait and let him get it over with so you can get on with your life.” She said putting her head down. “Hell no! I said I was gonna keep you safe, and I will!” “Why? Its not me that you care about, so use me to kill him. Why do you care what happens to me? You hardly know me. Nick, I am not your sister and I can't do anything to bring her back, just be in the way while you try. Why not just let me go?” This made Nick upset and she knew it. He loved his sister dearly and knowing about the virgin sacrifices made him even more upset, but thinking it could happen to someone else he was starting to get feelings for made him down right mad. “Go ahead, just give up then. Don't even think of what it would do to anyone else,” he said as he stormed out the door. He bumped into Barry in the hallway, “Man, what's wrong? Where is Emily?” he asked calming him down. “She doesn't even want to help herself, we have to get to Pennsylvania fast,” He said as he walked past to get things gathered. Emily still sat on the bed dazed. She didn't know what to do. She was being punished for being a virgin, how lame was that? Why was Nick acting so upset, he didn't know her enough to care if she lived or died. “Emily, get your things together, we have to go now!” Nick said sternly. They said a quick thank you and goodbye to Barry and headed out. Nick sat there quietly until Emily broke the silence. “Why are you mad at me?” She asked innocently. “I have worked my ass off to find you, to keep you safe, to help you and then you want to say that you are giving up? That I shouldn't care what happens to you when I would actually die for you?” he yelled out. This surprised her beyond words. “You would die for me?” she softly asked. “From the moment I saw you Emily, I would have died for you. You are different from everyone else.” He said looking strait ahead. “So it is back to that attraction thing again, I knew it,” she said sighing. “What the hell do you take me for, Emily? When I first saw you I didn't imagine myself in your pants so mark that from your mind now.” “Please don't yell, I am sorry. So if you care for me so much, why didn't you say that you would sleep with me to save me?” she asked not believing she actually just said that. “I can't take rejection too well.” “How do you know that I would have rejected you?” she asked. “You are above me.” “How can you say that? You are judging me, when my life is at stake and don't offer to help because you think we are in different social classes?” She said angrily. “I am not judging you!! I am sorry I just couldn't come out and say, I will sleep with you!” he said angrily back. “So how did you expect me to?” she asked as he rolled his eyes. “I don't know, I am sorry. But we have got to get you to a safe place.” He could feel his face burning with embarrassment. “I said I will help you in any way I could.” He said cooling down a little. There was an awkward silence for a while until they reached a gas station. “Do you want anything?” he asked as he got out to pump the gas. “No, thanks.” She said nervously. She felt so uneasy around him now. As mean as she acted towards him, she definitely had a crush on him, but was so defensive when it came to guys. Sex was unimportant to her, she wanted to wait on someone who genuinely cared for her and she wanted it to be special. Being in the situation that she was now, she may have to settle for a meal at McDonalds and a dusty hotel room. Meanwhile in the store, Nick grabbed a couple of candy bars and cokes. He was nervous also. He wasn't a virgin, but still he was no skirt chaser. He truly liked her and honestly would die for her. He put his things on the counter as the cashier stared out at his car and said, “You are one lucky son of a bitch. I would nail her in an instant- NICE!” he said as Nick reached up and grabbed his shirt, “Watch your mouth dickhead!” he said as he threw the money on the counter and headed for the car. “Here, I got you a soda and a candy bar.” He said handing her the snacks. “Thank you. What was the problem in there?” “Dumbass made a comment, I took care of him,” “Well, ok.” She said as she shrugged it off figuring it was a guy thing. They shared a glance and headed back on the road. “So, do you have a girlfriend?” Emily asked trying to make conversation. “Not anymore. Until about a month ago I had been dating this girl for almost a year and she dumped me because she said she just wanted to be free to party. She couldn't handle my moonlighting job, so she bailed. “Sorry. You just gotta meet the right girl.” She smiled and laid her head back and watched the scenery of a desert go by. About 2 hours later, Nick's cell phone started ringing. “Hello?” “Nick, just checking in. Mocdar's troups will probably start moving again tonight, but you are a good ways away from them, so you are safe if you drive during the daytime. Get some rest, buddy,” Barry said as they hung up. “That was Barry checking on us. Since it is almost sundown, we should stop to rest. I know that you are tired.” He said as she agreed. They pulled into a less than decent motel and checked in. They each wondered to themselves what would happen between them tonight, which made each of them edgy. “Well, the room is not too bad. Are you hungry? I saw a waffle house next door if you want to get something to eat. I don't think I've seen you eat anything besides the candy bar, you must be starved,” he rambled nervously. “Yeah, I am starving.” The two walked next door anxious to eat. Nick opened the door for Emily, guiding her by the small of her back. This gave her chills, and she hoped he hadn't noticed. Usually guys grabbed her butt, not her back. She liked the change. “What will you two love birds have?” the sweet waiter said winking at Nick as the two smiled at each other. “I want the super breakfast platter with an orange juice to drink,” Emily said as Nick was surprised at her order, yet really turned on by her appetite. “I will have the same,” He said smiling at Emily. “So you don't diet?” he asked smiling. “Hell no. I work my ass off in practice and at the gym so I don't have to diet.” He loved this about her, and started to feel a little more comfortable. She was still very nervous. She didn't know what she was supposed to do. She couldn't take the tension anymore. “Listen, Nick, about this whole losing virginity deal, I am scared to death. I am nervous, and by far mostly because I have no idea what to do. I mean, I have had the sex talk and have seen it on TV and at parties, but-“ “Emily, don't worry so much about it. I told you I would do everything in my power to keep you from even having to get close to Mocdar. It is just a suggestion to keep you from being lost forever, if it bothers you so much, don't worry about it, remember, its just kind of a safety net.” He said touching her hand. “But I do think it is a good idea, just in case something goes wrong, I wouldn't want to lose you forever,” he said sweetly. “This is just awkward for me,” she said looking down at the table. “I understand, but if you do decide you want dorky me to help you in that department, I would.” He said nervously smiling. “You are not dorky, Nick, I think you are cute,” She said smiling. “Like teddy bear cute or like a manly cute?” he said inquiring back. She just smiled as their food arrived. They ate almost without breathing in between bites. Their room was decorated in a deep red color with an ugly comforter on the bed. “Hey, we get HBO on the TV, Things are lookin' up!” Nick said sitting back on the bed. “I am gonna take a bath, ok?” Emily said as she searched through her bag for underwear and pajamas. “Ok. I am just gonna sit here and watch my favorite show,” he said smiling. “And what is that?” Emily asked. “Sex and the City- Samantha is my favorite,” he said as she blurted out laughing and went to the bathroom. The longer he sat there, the more nervous he became. After about thirty minutes, Emily came out of the bathroom looking absolutely beautiful. Her hair was down and damp from washing it, she smelt wonderful, and she wore pajamas that showed her figure well. He caught himself staring and quickly turned back to the TV. “Its all yours,” she said motioning for the bathroom. He told her thanks and headed to take a quick shower. He didn't feel comfortable with her in the room by herself, and after 5 minutes he was through. He came out of the bathroom to find her on her stomach on the bed watching the Disney channel. She noticed how good his hair looked wet, and loved the smell of his soap. “What on Earth are you watching, girl?” he joked. “Hey, I like the movies that come on here. They are so cute!” she said getting up and punching him in the arm. She noted his strong biceps as he acted like it really hurt him. He didn't have a shirt on, and she was immediately aware of how sexy his upper body looked. She was getting really nervous now. Was she supposed to initiate it? She just couldn't bring herself to do it. They sat beside each other watching the television. “What the hell is that?” Nick said as it startled Emily. “What? What is wrong?” she asked looking around the room. “That thing on your toe?” He said as she gave him a look of angriness. “It's a toe ring, what is wrong with you?” she said pushing his arm. “I didn't know you could wear jewelry on your feet. I suppose you have your naval pierced too?” he asked as she leaned back to show him that indeed she did. “I like it, I think it is cute,” she said defending herself. “You don't like them?” “They just look painful,” he said. “But do you think they look good?” “I think they are sexy as hell, but they still look painful” he said not looking at her because he was embarrassed with his comment. She smiled as she twirled the bead that was on the naval ring. “It didn't hurt.” She said looking at him again. She wanted him to kiss her, but was still nervous about what may happen after that. Just then his phone rang. It was Barry again letting them know that the vamp gang was on the go again, but still moving slow. He said the townspeople had been complaining on the news of their cattle being killed and such. “Thanks, man.” “Has Emily insured her safety yet?” Barry asked. “No, working on it, though,” he said wanting to ask Barry for advice. Barry was quite the lady's man, and knew just what to say. They hung up as he noticed it was almost ten o'clock. “I need to call the desk clerk to bring some more pillows and blankets so I can sleep on the floor,” he said hoping this would initiate something. “No, you don't have to sleep in the floor, I trust you. Besides, it's dirty and uncomfortable.” Emily said also trying to initiate something. “Are you sure? I don't mind,” he said glad that she insisted. He got into bed as she did and they both lay there uncomfortably. After about 5 minutes, Emily said, “I can't sleep,” “Me either. Do you wanna go for a walk or something?” Nick asked as he rolled over toward her. They both lay on their sides looking at each other. “No, not really. I have a headache, do you have any aspirin?” she asked rubbing the temple of her head. “Nope, but I do know a special technique to make it quit hurting, do you want me to try it?” he asked. She agreed as he sat up and put a pillow in his lap. “Lay down here.” He said as she put her head in his lap. He noticed that her hair was soft and her skin was smooth and silky. He placed one hand under her to massage the sides where the carotids and jugulars ran along side her neck. He then massaged her temples as she closed her eyes and said, “Will you marry me?” Smiling he said, “But we have never even been on a date before, you are jumping ahead there aren't you?” he said seeing a smile go across her face. “Well, what do you call tonight at the Waffle House, huh?” she asked playfully. “I would take you somewhere much nicer than that on our first date, and I usually hope for a goodnight kiss at the end of the date, so you see, it wasn't a date.” He said lightly thumping her ear. She smiled as he continued to massage her head. "It feels so much better, thank you so much!" she said sitting up and stretching. "My pleasure. Are you sleepy yet?" he asked hoping that she would say no. “A little. You?" she asked flopping back down on her pillow. "Not really." "You know, you haven't told me hardly anything about yourself, Nick. I don't even know your last name." Emily asked. "Nick Benson. I was born in Gainesville, Florida, I am 22 years old, and I go to Smithville College. I don't know what I want to do, maybe architecture, I dunno. Blah, blah, blah, I am boring, tell me about you." he said smiling and eager to know more. "That's not boring, I am boring. You already know that I go to the University of Kingston. I am a sophomore majoring in Physical Therapy. My mom is a loan officer and my dad owns a realty company. Boring, you see." She said. "So you should be the one giving me a massage, Dr." he teased. Just then they heard a knocking at the door, then one outside the window. "Be still! Stay here!" he ordered her as she sat looking frightened. Nick slowly opened the door and reached for his gun. Nothing. He turned back and went to the window. Nothing. "I don't know what the hell that was, but keep your eyes open." he said checking the locks on the doors and windows. He checked out the bathrooms and under the bed. "I'm scared, Nick. I don't think I can do this. I can't face a vampire." Emily said shaking. "It will be okay; hopefully you won't have to face them." He said sitting on the bed with her and hugging her. She held on to him tightly and buried her face into his chest. He knew this was the time to make his move, for some reason it felt right. Maybe it would make her feel more secure, although he kept in his mind that this must be a business affair only, though his feelings for her exceeded this. He slowly lifted her chin until she was looking into his face. Thier eyes met and they stared at each other for what seemed like forever. Slowly, they both leaned in until thier lips met. Nick took his time as he kissed her soft lips. He loved the way she tasted, and she loved the way the stubble on his top lip felt tickling hers. He caressed her shoulders as they sat there just kissing. Each of them could feel the other's heart racing as Nick pulled Emily closer to him. A piece of paper wouldn't fit between the two. The kiss was the longest one each of them had ever had, and when they pulled away, each wanted to do it again. Before Nick started to kiss her again, she looked up at him and asked, "Will you save me, Nick?" He then leaned down to kiss her again, as he laid her back on the bed. By this time, niether of them was nervous, they just wanted desperately to be with the other. As Nick was about to undress Emily, his cell phone rang. "Damn it!" he said as he gave her an apologetic look and answered the phone angrily. "Hello?" he said. "Nick, you have got to get out now.For some reason, Mocdar must have been farther along than I thought he was, he is only about fifty miles away. Get the hell out, and call me when you are safe." he said hanging up the phone. "Shit!! Come on, we have to go, now!!" Nick said not even explaining what was going on as he threw thier clothes into their bags. "Nick! What's wrong?" Emily asked as he threw her over his shoulder and headed for the car. "Are you gonna tell me what's wrong now?" Emily asked as Nick caught his breath and sped out onto the road. "Mocdar is too close. They tricked us, they are only fifty miles behind us." he said looking worried. He then looked over and noticed that Emily had tears rolling down her face. "I will keep you safe, I promise." he said reaching to hold her hand. They drove all night until they reached a small town to stop. "They can't travel during the day, so we can rest now." Nick said driving up to a nice hotel. The two went in to get a room. "Here you go sir, room 445, floor 5 to the left." the clerk said sleepily. Nick led Emily to the elevator to go to their room. There, Nick called Barry, and Barry informed them that they were at safe distance. Nick took his shirt and shoes off and fell on the bed, he was exhausted. Emily slipped into her pajamas and lay down next to him. He rolled onto his side next to her, as they didn't say a word as their lips met again. They were suddenly interrupted by a loud thundering and rain hitting the windows of the hotel violently as they noticed that the electricity had gone out. "Probably a storm coming. We had better find some candles or flashlights just in case." Nick said getting up off the bed angry that they were interrupted once again. As he searched for the items they needed, one of their windows busted out. Emily let out a scream as Nick hurredly ran towards her. "What happened?" He asked her putting his arms around her. "I don't know, it just busted. I don't think anything hit it, but I am not sure." she said calming down a little. "Stay here, I will take a look." he said grabbing the lamp from the sidetable for a make weapon. He approached the window as he heard odd voices coming from outside. "You can't save her, she's mine. Save yourself while you can, fool." he heard the voice say. "Hello? Who are you? Show yourself!" he said as he could feel Emily brush up against his back. "Emily, I said stay on the bed!" he said not meaning to yell. "I'm sorry! I was scared!" she said surprised at him for yelling. "I'm sorry, Emily, I don't know what is going on here. I thought I heard someone. We had better hit the road, get your stuff together." he said kissing her cheek in apology. They loaded the car as Nick carefully watched over his shoulder. He was worried, something just didn't feel right. " I tried calling Barry, but it gave me a busy signal so his phone must be out. We just need to drive as hard and as fast as possible." Nick said as they pulled out onto the road. “ Are you okay?" he asked her reaching for her hand. "I'm fine, but I can't help feeling like something is trying to keep us from being together." she said with a worried tone. " I think you're right. Just keep your eyes open." The two drove all night, both as wide-eyed as possible. " You know, we're beginning to become night owls, did you notice?" Emily said with a smile. Nick smiled back as Emily noticed how tired he was. "Why don't you let me drive a while and you take a nap, you look really tired." she said trying to persuade him. "I can't, it's still an hour or two before sun up and I don't want to take any chances." he said not budging from his decision. "You will be right here, I promise it will be okay." she said pouting at him. "Now, how can I resist that lip?" he asked pulling the car over. Emily felt a little better as she drove down the highway. She felt like she was actually helping, being able to drive a little and get her mind off of things. Nick was fast asleep as the night crept on. But Nick was having a horrible nightmare. In his dream, he saw Emily in a long, flowing white dress walking away from him and toward a firery lake. He tried calling out, but she didn't listen. Then her white dress was splattered with blood and her screams rumbled the earth under his feet. “Emily!!” he screamed out from his deep sleep. “What!! Nick!! What's wrong?” Emily said swerving the car almost out of control. Nick looked around as if he was confused as to where he was at. “Nick? Are you okay?” she asked bringing the car to a stop. “Yeah, just a bad dream.” He said rubbing his eyes. “Well I hope it wasn't that bad since you were screaming my name,” she asked worriedly. “Oh, sorry, you weren't in the dream, I don't know why I would have said your name,” he lied. “Oh. Its almost sunup, did you want to stop somewhere?” “Yeah, I need to try and call Barry again. You need to rest.” He said noticing her tired eyes. They exited to a small town in Kentucky called Pecins. “Damn it Barry, answer the phone!” Nick yelled at the small electronic device as if it were its own fault. “Shit!” he said as Emily came up beside him. “Is everything okay?” she asked looking confused. “I can't find Barry. That worries me. Did you get a room?” he asked her. “Yeah. It's over here.” She said pulling him towards the third hotel that they had to stay in. “This is becoming quite a ritual, running at night, staying in a room in the day,” she said with a little giggle. “Yeah, I know what you mean.” He said back as they again became cozy on the bed. This time they did not even attempt anything, just went to sleep. Nick started dreaming again. He saw Emily in her white dress again, blood stains and now she was calling for him. But he couldn't reach her. Then a dark shadow waved its arm around her, shaking her to the ground. “No! Emily!” he screamed aloud. “Nick! Wake up!” Emily said shaking him awake. “Nick, what are you dreaming about? Are you okay?” she said as he remembered where he was again. “That is the second time you have screamed out my name, what is going on?” she asked worriedly. “Just a dream, doesn't mean anything.” He said running his fingers through his short hair. “A dream can mean everything, Nick. What did you see?” she asked him again. “I saw you with blood all over you, something took you, I couldn't save you.” He said growing saddened. “What if that means I won't be able to save you, what if I fail?” he asked growing very upset. “You will, Nick, I wouldn't trust you so much if I didn't think that you would keep your promise,” she said touching his face. She leaned over and kissed him slowly, as she took his shirt off. He followed as he laid her down on the bed. Gently and sweetly, he became her safety net. As night fell, the two laid sleeping quietly and comfortably. But Nick's nightmares had soon returned. This time he saw Barry being taken away by the same shadows that took Emily. Then he saw that Emily was lying on a huge ruby rock, blood-splattered dress and all. He saw her crying and reaching for him, but he couldn't move. Instead of yelling out, he awoke by sitting strait up in the bed. This didn't wake Emily, and he noticed how beautiful she was, laying there showing bare skin so sweetly. He had completely fallen in love with her, which was forbidden to happen. It was only suppose to be a business deal, but it had become much more. When this was all over, he would have to leave her, and it would be painful and difficult, but it was for the best. But he was now worried about Barry. He couldn't get in touch with him, and now the dream- what should he do? Without waking Emily, he called Barry's dad to ask if he had talked to him recently. “No, son, I haven't talked with him in a couple of days. Is everything okay?” he asked in his stern voice. “Sir, would you mind paying him a visit and telling him that I need him to call me, its business,” he asked trying not to leak about the vamps. “Are you sure everything is okay, son?” he asked again. “Just visit him, please, soon, and give him my message, Thank you.” Nick hung up the phone and went to sit on the edge of the bed. Emily was gone. “Shit! Emily! Emily!” he freaked out. “Nick! Help!” he heard a faint voice calling from the window. The window was open, he noticed, and as he approached it, he noticed Emily hanging from it- with a long white dress on. “Am I dreaming again?” he thought to himself very confused. He thumped himself and pinched himself, but this was real. He leaned over the window sill to try to grab her hand as something pushed him out. He managed to grab a ledge, but it knocked Emily off. Luckily she grabbed the belt on his pants on the way down. He didn't even remember putting his pants on, this was getting weird. “Emily! Hold on!” he said trying to figure out how they would get out of this mess. Then just as his grip was losing, Barry appeared above him, reaching out his hand. “Grab on, man,” he said pulling them both up into the room. “What the hell happened, and what the hell are you doing here, and thank God that you were here,” Nick said blurting out words as if it were the last time that he would speak. “Nick, we have to talk.” Barry said sitting on the bed. Emily just sat speechless on the bed as Barry's story started to unravel. “My dad didn't leak anything to me; I just used it as an excuse. Mocdar's group tried to initiate me after they bit me by accident. They had messed up a telegenetic reading and came after me instead of the right victim. But when they saw that I wouldn't become a part of their mischievous and gruesome ways, they tried to kill me, but instead, your sister saved me by turning me back and giving herself to them. We were in love, Nick. I tried to stop her, but her force was too strong. We had been secretly seeing each other for the longest, and she had been hanging around one of Mocdar's lady vamps without knowing that she was a vamp.” Barry said as Nick's face grew red with anger. “Nick, please, I couldn't tell you, I needed you. I can't be completely cured until Mocdar is dead, and you have the tools to do this.” “You used me! You took my sister!” Nick said starting towards Barry as Emily tried to stop him. “Nick, settle down, he's your friend!” she said noticing he wasn't even paying attention to her. “Nick, listen, I didn't take your sister, she did it herself, I told you I tried to stop her! But she isn't all evil, Nick. Have you been having dreams?” “This snapped Nick out of his trance almost instantly. “Yes, why?” “She is trying to warn you, she still loves you Nick, she is the only reason the two of you are not dead yet. She has been bargaining with Mocdar, trying to stall him. But it is almost time, you have to get going. Nick, I am not worried about being completely healed anymore, I am worried of your safety and of Emily's safety. Now leave, don't look back, and clear your mind. Alicia will help you all she can.” Barry said as he went out of the door. Nick just sat on the bed speechless. “Get your things; I am gonna go kill this bastard.” He said coldly as they prepared to leave. Nick's attitude had changed completely since he learned of the betrayal that Barry had lain upon him. He had not said a word to Emily in almost two hours. “Will you please say something to me, Nick?' She finally asked after getting the courage up to talk to him. “Not now, Emily.” Is all he said to her. She let her head drop as a tear rolled down her face. She felt like she had lost him. His cold stare ahead sent chills down her bones and felt like ice. They had just had the most wonderful night together, and all he could say was, “Not now, Emily.” “Nick, its obvious you are not in this to save me anymore, so just let me out of the car, and go and do your business,” she said still not budging his stare. “I need you for bait, sit still.” He said so coldly. She couldn't believe what she was hearing, and this made her stomach burn as she started to quietly cry. How could he change so quickly? She had just given herself to him, and he turned his shoulder. He was a typical guy, he had gotten what he wanted, and now he was done. She knew how upset he was about his sister, but this gave him no right to treat her like a lure. As he drove down the road, all he could see was red. He was beyond mad at Barry, and he couldn't believe what was happening. He was so lost in his thoughts; all he could think about was killing this sorry asshole. He lost his memory in a lot of areas, but he did remember feeling good and warm not long before his back-stabbing friend arrived. He felt like he knew this girl next to him, but he knew that she was bait, and she needed to keep her mouth shut. Instead of driving towards safety, he was driving right into Mocdar's territory. “Nick, why are you driving this way, we need to get to Pennsylvania! Nick are you listening to me?” she said still crying. “Let go of me and shut up before I kill you myself!” he blurted out at her pushing her away. She was beyond amazement of what she was hearing. When he pulled up to a stop sign, just before the highway, she jumped out of the car and started to run. “Hey, you little bitch, come back here!” he yelled turning the car around. She just ran as hard as she could, crying as hard as she could back to hide somewhere, maybe back to find where the real Nick was, she needed him right now. Instead of running to the real Nick, she ran right into the arms of the enemy- Mocdar. He was nothing like she imagined him to be, really nice looking and courteous. “My dear, IsaEmily, you have come to me. You are quite one to chase, my love. Shall we go to get started? I know that you are not completely pure anymore, but you're pure enough to cleanse my veins. We also need someone with your beauty on our team, what do you say?' he asked taking her hand and kissing it gently. “Yes, master.” She said in a trance as they walked off with him. Nick drove to a dirty motel where he thought would be a good place to meet with Mocdar. His bait had gotten away, so he would have to think of another way to lure Mocdar to him. As theses thoughts ran through his head, he drifted into a deep sleep. He immediately began dreaming. He saw his sister, his sweet little sister wearing a white dress, holding hands with the girl who he had been holding as bait. They both had blood on their dresses, and were both calling his name. Then the scene changed over to a hotel room, where he saw himself in the bed with Emily. He watched himself kiss her and hold her as if they were in love. Then he heard his sister's voice: Nick, you have to snap out of it, Emily's in danger, she needs you! Go save her! He quickly awoke and sat up in bed. “What have I done?” he said running out of the room and speeding back towards town. “Are you comfortable, my dear IsaEmily?” Mocdar said to her as she lay back on a soft, ruby fleece bed. “Yes, master. I am yours.” She said caressing her long flowing dress of white. Mocdar kissed her forehead and ran his fingers along her lips. He moved slowly down her body cutting her dress and exposing her stomach. He twirled her naval ring smiling at her gently as she saw his teeth come into sight. “This will sting a little,” he said as he slowly moved toward her naval. She clinched her fists and prepared for the worst. He slowly sank his teeth into her stomach as she let out a cry. Blood trickled down her side as Nick rushed in. “No!!!” he yelled as Mocdar looked up with a smile upon his face as blood oozed down his chin. “She's mine now, fool. Just like your sister is mine,” he hissed still with a satisfied look on his face. Emily slowly lost consciousness as she heard Nick scream her name. Nick and Mocdar fought hard against each other. “You failed her, as you failed your sibling,” Mocdar kept saying as Nick took his swings at him. Mocdar finally pinned Nick down to the floor. “Do you want to become part of my clan, young man?” he asked him squeezing his neck with both hands. Just then, Nick's sister appeared, interrupting Mocdar. “What are you doing here? This is my business!” Mocdar yelled at her. “I am sorry, Master, but I wanted a piece of the action, forgive me.” She said as this pleased him. “Come here, my dear, taste your kin's blood,” he said motioning her over. As Mocdar turned back to Nick, his sister drove a lead steak through Mocdar's heart, knocking herself over as well as him. “Alicia!” Nick yelled as he went to her. “Save Emily, Nick. I tried to make up for what I did by killing Mocdar, but since I belonged to him, it will take me too. I love you, Nick.” She said as she slowly dissolved into thin air. Nick began to cry as he felt a hand on his shoulder. It was Barry. “Nick, I'm sorry.” He said as he hugged his long time friend. “I have failed my sister and Emily,” he said crying to Barry. “You can still save Emily, Nick. You just have to mix your blood with hers.” He said handing him a pocket knife. Nick looked up at him and took the knife. He walked over to where Emily was lying. His temporary amnesia was gone, and he had remembered everything that went on between him and Emily before, and how he treated her when he was in his daze. “Barry, I will still have to leave her for her to be safe always, even if Mocdar is dead now, his clan will find a way to bring him back.” Nick said still staring down at Emily laying there lifeless. “I know, but knowing that she is safe will be worth it.” Barry said putting his hand on Nick's shoulder once again. Nick took the pocket knife and cut his hand. He placed it on the bite marks on Emily's stomach as their blood united. Emily started to cough as she regained consciousness. “Emily?” Nick said touching her face as she recognized who he was. She smiled as he held her. She did not remember how he had treated her, and he was thankful for that. She leaned up to try and kiss him, and as much as he wanted to meet her, he knew that it was wrong. She gave him a confused look as he looked away. Emily had to try to forget about Nick. She grabbed her books to head to her first class of the day. “IsaEmily! How was your trip?” She heard Jillian yell. “It was good, sorry I left in such a hurry.” “No problem, we understood when you said your aunt was ill and needed you. Will you be at practice today?” “Yeah, of course,” Emily replied with a fake grin. She couldn't quit thinking about Nick, and how he left her the way that he did. Barry had tried to explain to her why he had to leave her, but she didn't want to believe it. She missed him. Emily transferred schools shortly, and tried her best to forget about Nick. She was angry that he would leave her. She knew it was his job, but he had taken something from her; her heart. Tweet
