The man sat down next to Estelle and gave her another tissue so that Estelle could wipe away the rest of her tears. Boldly, Estelle asked, “who are you, what is that tune, why didn't you stop when I called for you to?” The man began to laugh so infectiously that Estelle began to laugh too. “I had no idea anyone was even calling me,” he said in surprise. “Whenever I whistle that tune, I can hardly hear anything else. It is so beautiful isn't it? I have no idea where it comes from but I wish I knew too.” he continued. Estelle stopped laughing, and introduced herself. The young man did so as well. He explained that he was a music teacher at the local school who had just been part of a music performance held at the local mall. The tune he was humming had been taught to him by a fellow music teacher he worked with. As it turned out, his colleague had been someone Estelle had consulted about the origin of the tune. Estelle had recognized the man because both had attended a piano performance their mutual friend had soloed in. “Oh, I was hoping I could finally find out about that tune and tell Rebecca, by niece.” Estelle explained. “I guess we will never know who composed it.” The man nodded and the two of them sat humming the tune in unison and began to laugh again When they stopped they heard the tune again in the dark distance and exchanged a startled glance. “Forget about it,” said Estelle. That tune is driving me nuts. I have to get home before it begins to rain.” “Mind if I walk with you? Asked her new friend asked, “This place is giving me the creeps.” Estelle grabbed his hand, and the two of them ran as fast as they could from the strange tune. Tweet
