I met an unusual ghost who threatened me.

I replied promptly, I am sorry. I withdraw my comment, feeling very
relieved.

Smile is back in his face. He said, “Really I cannot blame you for
having all those nonsense idea about ghosts. Nobody understands us.
Neither they have clear idea, nor interest about us, though we really
live very close to you”. He continued, “Just think about that bus
conductor, he was blaming ghosts for harming people. Do you think any
ghost will come out to the street in the middle of the dark cold night
to frighten people? Some ghost has to be crazy to do that”.

By now all my fears are gone. I get a bit curious about this ghost.
After all this is my first encounter with a real ghost. I asked him
softly, “How do you know about the bus conductor's remark?” “I was in
the bus just like you. I am also coming from Bandarban. I was sitting
in the vacant back sit of the bus. As you know there is no regular
transport for ghosts. So we have to take public transport. In fact I
had to wait for two more days in Bandarban to get a vacant sit. I was
also worried in the bus the whole way if any new passenger just on
boards the bus to have a sit in the chair I was sitting. I had to be
careful not to touch anybody or make any sound. Oh! Life is horrible
for a ghost”. He seemed very sad.

So I decided to change the subject. I asked him, “Do you live nearby?”
“O yes, I live in Shewrapara. I really have to walk quite a bit to
reach my tree. You know I cannot take any transport. This is a dark and
cold night. I was frightened to walk alone. When I have heard that you
are going to walk back home I have decided to walk with you. You seemed
to be a courageous man. Of course I had to walk in the night as in the
day time roads will become very busy.”

“Why did you go to Banderban?” “ I like to travel. I like to visit
different places. Life in Dhaka City is getting pathetic. Air is so
polluted. I wanted fresh air badly. I love hills, natural beauty, and
seas and also meet interesting people, just like you. That's why I had
decided to visit Banderban this year”.

Then the ghost asked me, “Where do you live? What do you do?” “I live in
Paikpara and I am a writer. I try to write stories for children”. “Very
good, please write for us. Please write about the measurable conditions
of ghosts in the Dhaka City. Please write to the government and general
people not to cut down ancient trees, destroy gardens or renovate old
houses. Ghosts are loosing their natural habitat. Please let us live in
the city. We do not want to go back to villages any more. Will you
please write for us?” “You mean I shall write about ghosts?” “Yes off
course. We cannot write. Somebody has to do that.” “No, I don't want to
do this. If I write as you told, people will think I am crazy. No
publisher will ever publish my stories”. “Forget about the publisher!
He shouted. If you do not write about ghosts, think what I can do to
you.”

Oh my god! He does not look innocent any more. He is looking at me with
cruel eyes. Those eyes are getting red. With a very harsh and
frightening voice he said, “ I s-h-a-l-l g-o t-o y-o-u-r h-o-u-s-e

e-l-s-e! He grabbed my right shoulder with his left hand and put out
his right hand in front of me. It is all bones!!

I had no choice. I just managed to put out my wallet and took a business
card out from it and give it to him. While he was taking it, first
sound of Azan came from some distance. The sound shook him like an
electric shock. He groaned and vanished in the thick mist. No body is
there anymore. I could not bear any more, simply got fainted.

When I opened my eyes, there were four or five people looking at me.
Inquiring, “Who are you? What happened to you? Are you being mugged?” I
looked around; the ghost is nowhere to be seen. So I gathered myself.
Took a rickshaw and started for my home. Oh! What a horrible
experience!

I was pretty sure; the ghost cannot come to my house. I shall ever
remember the ghost though. He was threatening me! He did not know, I
always carry false visiting cards while I am travelling, to overcome
unwanted people or even ghosts!!
