The straps are always around Uncle Hi's shoulder so he can make Hank go
where he wants him to go. The mule is friendly and we pet on him as we
talk. to uncle Hi. He will usually give us an apple or something to
feed Hank After a few minutes uncle Hi will head on down the road to
get his supper and feed and bed hank down for the night. Me and Gail
always wonder what a mules bed looks like. It must be Big for something
Hanks size.

After the kitchen is done Mom and Grandma and Dad usually come out to
the porch for a while to rest and talk. Today is Friday so we are all
talking about going to town tomorrow to shop and go the store for the
food we have to buy. Gail and me always love going to town and we know
since it is Saturday we will have other family coming in for the day.
That means we will have cousins to play with and we always have lots of
fun together.

When it starts to get dark we go inside to get away from the bugs biting
us. Dad turns on the radio to listen to some kind of program Granny
will sit in her rocking chair. She usually sews or does some kind of
thing with two big needles and balls of string. It is so nice to see
that string become sweaters or things we can wear or things she puts on
chairs or the couch. they are real warm to snuggle into when it gets to
be cold outside. Her and Dad will sometimes make comments about the
things they are listening to on the radio.

Mom will most times come in and bring a game of Chinese checkers or
checkers the thing we like to play the most is jacks. Mom is real good
at that and she laughs when me or Gail will miss the ball and it will
go flying over the house we never know where it will land so we are
always laughing about how or where we will find it., there are so many
places where a little ball can hide in a room. Mom laughs at us as we
try to master a game so simple yet so hard at the same time. Mom is
real good at it she can some times go all the way through and never
miss. She is real good and we love playing with her.

Around Nine o'clock we get ready for bed. Me and Gail sleep in a room in
the back of the house Granny calls the boys room. I think that's
because it was my uncles room when they were little boys living here.
Mom and Dad and Joan sleep in the girls room also at the back of the
house. I think it was Mom and her sisters room when they were little
girls.

Gail and I sleep in a big old feather bed that is real good to sleep in
because once you get in it and get settled you can hardly move the way
the mattress wraps around us. We usually don't talk much after we are
in bed because we are tired and the bed just swallows us up and makes
sleep come fast, but tomorrow being Saturday and that is always our big
day . So we talk for a while about going to town and how many cousins
will come visit so we can have a lot of other kids to play with. We
like our cousins and always have so much fun together.

Sleep comes very fast as we lay and dream of all the fun we will have
when we wake up.
