death for an insignificant life.

How long have we fought? Days? Weeks? Months? I lost count, just as I
lost count of the thinning number of our comrades. The battles were
getting more frequent, “Win the War, Surrender Not.”, the papers
shouted as the final campaign began. Yet, as the carnage raged on, I
realized the inevitable was soon to come, that I would finally meet the
great Grim Reaper to take me on my final journey but I would not go
down yet, bodies would fall before I do, buildings would crumble before
I do and “Death to the Enemy” became my sole vocation.

The bullets spilled from my rifle, the smoke clouded my sight, the
deafening screams echoed in my ear and suddenly, he grabbed my foot,
the philosopher.

“Run...” he uttered, with blooding dripping from his stomach as he tried
to hold the wound, “Get to the chopper...”

Why should I? A life committed to a lost cause. No. I would not run, I
would not falter, I would not hide any longer from this torment. This
would be the day it all ends for me and I would fight and kill and slay
and murder until He comes to claim me!

I screamed until I felt to air, I ran until I saw the frightened faces
of the enemies, I fired my rifle until it spilled no bullets... My body
collapsed beyond the barricade...

And I marched...
