This is my first attempt at writing a short story. It's about two kids, Scott and Amanda. This story is fiction, but based on typical stories of kids growing up and what they do. This first part only goes up to the 6th grade, but more may follow depending | |||
Click here to read the first 75 lines of the story practice and started to get really good, and his mind soon totally had forgotten about Amanda. Amanda, on the other hand, was the shy one. She had a lot of friends from school, but didn't really like to stay at school longer than was necessary. She focused mostly on reading and expressing her creativity through writing and drawing. As she got a little older and entered 5th grade, she decided that after school wasn't that bad and joined after school art and reading clubs. This didn't change her shyness, but she did learn to open up a little more. At that time boys were still "Icky" and anyone who had a crush would be taunted by "Sitting in a Tree" songs. But, deep inside, Amanda she knew that liking a boy probably wasn't that bad, but really kept putting it in the back of her mind so she could concentrate on spending time with her friends. The boys didn't publicly admit to liking girls, ether. Scott and his friends, being insecure about the chance of being in a relationship, always joked with each other about liking girls. But each of them knew that they did want to, at least some day, like a girl. Summer Attitude Change When Scott and Amanda entered Sixth grade, things started to change. The general feeling of love started to seem like not such of a "bad thing." Although in different classes, Scott, Amanda, and everybody else in the sixth grade got to see each other much more. Since teachers decided "rotating" classes would be much better, different kids were with each other in different classes at different times of the day to learn different subjects. Scott and Amanda had one class together: English. English would be Amanda's favorite class, since she still had a lot of interests in writing and drawing. Scott, on the other hand, was more of an outdoor athlete type, so he hated just about every class he had, except P.E. and Lunch. There was one thing that interested Scott in English, however. That was Amanda. Loud Secrets One day after baseball practice, Scott told his friend Mark that he thought he liked someone, but wasn't sure, and he didn't want to talk about it then. Mark, being the guy who had to know everything, constantly drilled him the entire rest of the week until he finally told him that it was Amanda from his English class. Scott felt relieved that he finally got it off of his chest, but had a new fear: What if she didn't like him? Or even worse, what if he didn't have the guts to talk to her about it? After all, the last several years they had only casually talked in the halls and at at lunch in a huge gathering of friends outside at the benches. He really didn't know what to think of his newly admitted feelings, so he decided he'd forget about it for the weekend. Monday, the first day back at school for the week, Scott noticed Mark talking to a lot more people than usual. He didn't think much of it and preceded to head to his first class, which was English. The teacher was late, so Scott decided to chat with his friends in the back of the room. He was met with a huge surprise. Jonathan, being the loud mouth gossiping guy of the group, loudly shouted "SO SCOTT, I HEAR YOU LIKE AMANDA? HAVE YOU KISSED HER YET?" The entire class had turned around to listen to what Jonathan was shouting about. Scott froze. He didn't know what to say, or even what to do. He slowly turned around, hoping that Amanda, or any of her friends, hadn't heard. Of course, by that time, the entire class, including the teacher who had just walked in to hear Jonathan, were looking at him. Amanda had heard it all, and had her head berried in her book while the rest of the class quietly whispered and giggled. Scott knew what they were saying, about him, and about Amanda. Before Scott could figure out a way to get out of the classroom and hide, the teacher told the class to sit down and open their books, and to pass their homework up. Scott was saved, at least until the end of class. Scared Puppy Love At the end of the period when the teacher announced it was time to leave, Scott bolted to the door and ran to the bathroom faster than the speed of light. He didn't want to be seen, he didn't want to face his feelings, and the rest of the Sixth grade who knew about them. Amanda, who had done her best the entire period to hide her head in her text book, was now wide opened for her friends to taunt her about it. Kathy, Amanda's best friend, immediately said "So do you like him?" Amanda denied it, saying she hadn't even talked about it, and told her friends to "bug off," which to her surprise, they did, at least for now. Scott finally realized that he had to face the music and left the bathroom and went for his next period, History. He tried to grab a seat in the back, but they were all taken, so his only option was the empty desk next to his good old pal, Mark. Mr. Roberts, the History teacher, was Never late, and didn't like students talking when class started. Mark tried to ask Scott where he went and why he was hiding, but Mr. Roberts scolded Mark as soon as he started to speak. Once again, Scott had temporary shelter to hide under. Amanda had a different class, Math, which had a very nice teacher who let the students talk quietly, as long as they weren't suspected of cheating. Amanda wasn't as lucky as Scott, she realized, when she was bombarded with 50 questions about their alleged relationship. She kept denying that they were together or even had spoken, until her other friend Britney bluntly said "He's hot, I wish he liked me." Amanda's other friends agreed with Britney and assured her that she was really lucky to have somebody like Scott liking her. Could it be that Amanda may really have nothing to fear? Were Scott's friends just being immature about the entire thing? Amanda had a sigh of relief and was glad that her friends really didn't want to make fun of her. That day at lunch, Scott tried to sit alone. Of course, that didn't last long when his friends decided to gather around him and ask him about his relationship with Amanda. He really was upset that his personal feelings were out for the entire world to know, and even worse, he felt that this incident would ruin his chances for ever having a relationship with Amanda. Scott tried to explain that he just liked her and hadn't even told her about his true feelings. Before he could finish, he was interrupted by a beautiful voice from behind him. "Scott, can we talk... In Private?" Talk Why did Amanda want to talk to Scott? Scott feared the worst. He thought she wanted to yell at him for spreading lies, or that she wanted to tell him she didn't want to ever see him again. Scott reluctantly followed Amanda away from his lunch table to the stairs outside of the lunch room. "Hey. It's been a long time since we've really talked," said Amanda. "Um..Yeah. I've been meaning to tell you." said Scott. "Tell me what, Scott?" "You know.. that I.." "That you what? You can tell me." "I like you, I guess." "You guess? You like me or you don't like me, don't guess." Scott was starting to sweat. He had to flat out tell her, and from how she sounded, he had no idea how she'd react. "Yes. I like you. I'm sorry that Jonathan.." "Don't say you're sorry. It's not your fault. But you know what?" "What..?" "You should have just told me. Because, well, I've had feelings that I've been tried to hide from myself." "What do you mean?" "Well, I've felt that I liked you, I just didn't want to admit it to myself." Scott was totally shocked. This isn't what he had dreaded would happen at all! He was totally speechless. He started to try to mumble something, but before he could make a complete word, she had silenced his mouth with her lips. This was his first kiss! Not knowing what to do, he just closed his eyes and enjoyed every second of it. It felt like it lasted for hours, but it only was about six seconds before Mr. Roberts interrupted them and told them they needed to be in the lunch room. Scott and Amanda immediately jumped away when they heard Mr. Roberts. It took them a few seconds to realize what they had just done, but they just giggled at the whole thing. They walked back to the lunch room together, with their arms around each other. Tweet
