A long, but touching poem about what it is like to grow up, and grow away from your best friend. | |||
Click here to read the first 75 lines of the story But they always say the sun shines best After the hardest snowfall. Our houses are still close together And to us, its not that far. We still don't have bicycles But sometimes you have the car. But responsibilities now claim us And we have work to do Sometimes all the time we have Is just for a word or two. Once in awhile, we do have the time And we talk about all we have missed The relationships, the heartaches, The different boys I've kissed. But yet when my mind is clear And I think of my best friend There is no doubt in my mind That you are who he is. We have been through so much In these past 4 years We have seen the hurt and pain And laughed through all the tears. A lot of things have tried to wreck us But we were too strong to be destroyed Because, you and I both know, When the problems rained, they poured. But we got through all of our fights Every single one of them Even the ones where we were both so stubborn That neither wanted to give in. But we forgot about those Or we just let them slide Because we loved our friendship It was a never ending ride. But later on, our houses may not be so close And the reality will be that they are far We probably won't have bikes to ride And we won't want to drive the car. And then, our families will need us And leave us with little time to spare To remember a friend from forever ago They won't want to share. But I hope then, that you are happy. And you receive all kinds of joy Maybe in the gift of a little girl Or possibly a little boy. Most will make sure to tell us That our paths will lead us farther apart But we won't ever be separated Because we are connected at the heart. Dedicated to Michael Anthony Marek, who I have loved since the first time I laid eyes on him, and who will forever be my best friend in life, and in death. Tweet
