Seth is overcome with his greed, and pays the consequences... | |||
Click here to read the first 75 lines of the story to his leg. He set off to the roof to peep the scene. As he climbed the ladder, he could hear loud machinery in use through the walls. He reached the roof, and looked through the skylight to ascertain the odds. He saw three armed guards with CAR-15’s. He laughed. The thing about the Car’s was their ammo. It was made to be armor piercing, and as he wasn’t wearing any armor, if he was shot, little damage would be done. His shotgun on the other hand, could do some major damage, and his colt would make anyone think twice about coming his way. He looked again, and saw what was a large box being lifted by a hoist and there were five workers in sight. Seth could see two other people and assumed they were the men in charge. In all there were ten people, and those were odds Seth liked. It didn’t take long for Seth to devise a plan, and he acted on it instantaneously. He took aim with his shotgun, and shot the chain from the hoist. The box fell to the ground with aggravating lethargy, but Seth didn’t wait to see what happened. He jumped down through the window, landing on a bundle of tarps he had seen below, and tucked and rolled while shots rang through the warehouse. He popped up and laid two consecutive shots at the most immediate threat, the gunmen. He laid out the first with his second shot, and his chest exploded in a spray of red mist. Seth hid behind the pillar that has supporting the roof, and un-strapped his Colt. He was going to need quick firing, and the gauge just wouldn’t do. He looked around the pillar, and the workers struggled to right the box as it was upside down. A strange light radiated from the box, and Seth wanted nothing else but to look at the box for all eternity. With a great effort he pulled his eyes from the strange light, and looked for the guards, who were entranced by the light as well, and Seth picked them off easily. He then focused his attention on the workers. They seemed too busy trying to move the box to consider what was inside of it. They were equipped with shades, and their purpose was at once apparent. The shades blocked out the strange light, so they could work unhindered. Seth pulled the first worker he came across off his feet, and pistol-whipped him. He took the glasses from him so he wouldn’t be distracted, as he crumpled to the ground. Seth disabled the other workers easily, by well-placed shots to their knees. He then focused his attention on the men in charge. They were wearing gray Armani suits, and obviously had expensive taste, and the finances to match it. They were running around like mad men, trying to make out what was happening. Seth disabled both of them and came over to check if they were armed. He tied them up with a bit of chain he pulled off the ground, and finally looked over at the box. The object inside the box immediately pulled at his eye. He noticed that the arcane writing along the edges were glowing with a dull golden color. The thing that was the most appealing about the object was the red/gold fluid that seemed to ripple and throb with his heartbeat. He walked over to the men he tied up, and noticed there was something strange about them he couldn’t place. He tried to place it, then gasped. The men had no eyes. Instead, where there should have been eyes, they had a red glow similar to the object in the box. Seth, utterly disturbed turned to the first man, and said, ”What the hell is going on?” He looked amused and stated “You meddled where no man should have. Now your soul will belong to us.” Seth was not at all amused, and hit him with his gun in the mouth. The man laughed “Your puny strength cannot harm us, we are to much for you to handle. You will regret the day you interfered with his majesty’s business.” Seth shot him in the head, and watched as the red flame dimmed and sputtered out of existence. He then disposed of the other as well, and walked over to the object in the box. Upon closer examination, the object did pulse with his heartbeat. He wondered what kind of thing this could be, and what secrets it might hold. He realized he had been gone a long time, too long, wrapped up the wonderful prize in a tarp and carried it out to the trunk of the car. He jumped in the front seat, and said “Let’s get the Fuck out of here.” Sharine asked him what the hell happened, and he told her to shut up and wait. He lit up a cig and inhaled deeply. This was definitely the strangest and yet the best thing that has ever happened to him. He couldn’t explain it, but he was totally content with this newfound object, and didn’t have a care in the world. ------------------------------present----------------------------------- Seth shivered and hit his cigarette again. If only he would have never taken that job, this shit would have never happened. He looked up as the door connecting the cars opened. Seth tried to see who was coming in, and after about ten seconds, he got pissed and yelled “Hey buddy, close the damn door already...” but his voice trailed off as he noticed no one was in the doorway or in sight anywhere. Seth decided to lay off the Jack, because it obviously was not clicking with his system properly. He tossed it out the window, killed his cigarette, and tossed that out the window too. Seth remembered the last time he felt this way. The last time he couldn’t get Sharine out of his head, and the last time he regretted the decisions he made. -----------------------------memory------------------------------------- Seth sat in his car, listening to Pantera and smoking a cigarette. He looked out of his fogged up windshield, and watched as they broke into his house. He wasn’t pissed, but he wanted to do something about it. He remained calm, and thought about the source, his source. The source seemed to provide him with all the sustenance he needed lately. He fed of the emotions from it, and gained power. Ever since he took it from the warehouse that one evening, his life had changed forever. Seth decided to keep it instead of delivering as promised. He had to remain on the run, so he wouldn’t get whacked. Sharine was tired of this life, but he didn’t care anymore. All he cared about was his prized Source. One night he woke up and sat up in the car, only to notice Sharine wasn’t there. He opened the door and yelled her name, but no one came. He soon tired of yelling, and checked his trunk to reassure himself that his baby was still there. When he saw it, he was relieved. He found a note on his windshield saying he had just begun to pay for his lack of loyalty. Seth felt like his soul was being torn apart. Everything he had known in life was coming to an end. The only solace he could find in the whole situation was he had his beautiful source. The source from which all else came. Everything and anything that matters comes from the source. It was his life source, it consoled him in situations, where he needed help, and it was his ultimate companion. He found sanctuary in an abandoned church, and hid there for a while. He ended up moving from place to place, and finally ended up staying in a Southern Californian duplex. He was content as long as no one took his beautiful baby. He tried to see who these individuals were, but he couldn’t see it through his fogged window. He took a drag on his cigarette, and three fiery glows reflected in his mirror. He laughed, “It looks like the Source has finally reached me. He let himself fill with the power, truly feeling strength fill him for the first time. He saw images of death and love, and all imaginable emotions, but more importantly he saw rage. He was consumed by this rage, and he had no thought but to destroy those responsible for him feeling such pain. He threw open his door, and watched in fascination as things became slowed down to the point where it was humorous. He saw a cat as it looked up at him, and ever so slowly opened its mouth to hiss. Before he could even think about it, and before the cat had even started to make noise, he picked the cat up by its tail and launched it up in the air, while it emitted a slow screech that sounded similarly to a banshee. He laughed, and walked to his door. Before he could touch it, the door began to open, slowly an inch at a time. He ripped the door from the hinges and threw it into the street. He turned around and was met with a surprised stare from an IRA man with a gun. Obviously they had found him. Before he could even point it at Seth, the gun was ripped from his and bent into a knot. Seth picked the man up by his head, and squeezed ever so slightly, and watched as it exploded with a sickening sound that reminded Seth of apples. He was suddenly hungry. He went to his kitchen, the invaders momentarily forgotten, and looked for something to eat. He turned to the sink and saw a pair of glowing eyes behind him. He growled low in his throat, and turned around within a blink of an eye. He was faced with a man no bigger than he was. Seth was overcome with jealousy at the thought someone else had access to his precious source. He launched himself at the man, only to collapse as an unseen blow came from behind. He woke up in his kitchen to find his head throbbing with more pain than he had ever felt at one time. He walked to the front door only to see a body maimed and battered. “I’m glad I didn’t meet what did that,” he said to himself, and jumped over the man. He went out to his car to leave, only to find a torn and crumpled metal frame of what was once his vehicle. He examined his car to see if he had any belongings, but there was nothing. He ran to his trunk, to see if his baby was there, and he let out a cry of such pain and utter distraught, that one who heard it would have thought Satan himself was torturing that poor individual. He heard sirens coming his way, and he ran off into the night to hide forever. There was nothing left worth living for. -------------------------------present---------------------------------- Seth, after remembering that vicious ordeal again, wished he had the bottle of Whiskey still to erase the memory. He lit up another cigarette, and cried softly to himself. ------------------------------memory------------------------------------ After years of hiding, and scrounging for food, and clothes, Seth finally decided he needed to do something. The cops didn’t seem to know where he was, and he was tired of hiding. More importantly though, was he didn’t feel the pull towards the Source anymore. His eyes had regained their normal color, and he was hungry. He was hungry for life, hungry for food, and hungry for revenge. Seth found a job as a bag boy at a grocery store for a while, and started to regain some of his former strength. He never gave his true name, of course, instead he had bought a fake ID, and all Legal Documents required for living at a reasonable 1,200 dollars. He got a job as a bouncer, and started to remember the passions of life. He was fired one day for drinking on the job, and Seth decided he needed to find something that paid a little better, yet was less exciting, as he was not as young as he used to be now. He found an opening as a security guard in a museum, and that seemed to fit, so he went on his way. --------------------------------present--------------------------------- Seth took another deep hit off his cigarette, and stared in astonishment as the door opened again, with no apparent person in sight. Seth stood up, and walked over to the doorway, and instead of leading to the other car, it lead down a spiral staircase into what seemed to be the depths of the earth. Scared shitless, yet ready for anything, Seth began to descend the staircase. It was darker than the night, thicker than oil, and stunk worse than a rotting dead body that has sat for a week. After walking for what seemed like ten minutes, he saw a torch ahead. He picked it up, and was able to see ahead of him. He kept going, and finally came to a cavern. This was unlike any cavern he had ever seen before. There were thousands of fiery glows seemingly floating in the vast sea of darkness. “Probably Torches,” he muttered to himself, though not entirely convinced himself. Seth walked ahead, and ducked under the crumbling arch that was covered with cobwebs. He felt a tingling sensation along his spine, and turned around, only to be met by those same glows that were up ahead. Suddenly it dawned upon Seth that these were not torches at all. Seth turned to run, but the glows were on all sides. He dropped his torch, and it went out. The darkness seemed to be filled with these glowing orbs Seth realized were eyes. He stumbled over a broken cobblestone, and fell to the ground. Suddenly his nostrils filled with the undeniable stench of death and suffering. He could hear screams off in the distance suddenly get louder, until the wailing filed his ears. Seth covered his ears, and tried to block out the sound, but it was in his brain. The eyes closed in on him, and he began to make out faces. “No! I killed you!” he cried. “And I told you nothing you could do would make any little bit of difference. You should have never meddled in His Majesty’s business, puny human” He cackled. Seth looked at the other faces, hoping to see someone who could help, but all wore unspeakable grimaces of either pain or laughter, he couldn’t tell. His eyes fell upon a face and his heart jumped. “Sharine!” he cried, “help me!” “Seth, my beloved, our love runs deeper than anything in existence, yet in this there is nothing I can do. When the IRA took me from you, they tortured me trying to get anything they thought was of value, but I never spoke. They kept me alive, hoping I would eventually speak, but I didn’t. One day they found where you were staying, and took me along to get you. We were not alone. His Majesty’s eyes are many, and there is no hiding from him. He destroyed all of my captives but one. You luckily disposed of him as he was running to the front door. His Majesty waited, to see what you would do, and when he found out you had tapped his life force, he was furious. He ordered his men to destroy you, but before they could he had an epiphany. He told them to clout you, and they took what rightfully belonged to him, his heart. The power you once wielded began to fade and he though it was time for retribution. He followed your movements, and decided the time was right. He opened his home to you, and he will now take you into his ranks. He knows you will serve him faithfully, because I belong to him too.” “NO!” he screamed. “Join me my beloved” and she reached out a hand. Tweet
