joy. She looked over to the hills and saw growing crops, dancing in the
summer wind, looking up to the smiling sun as he fed them with
goodness. She watched as her parents ran around the variety of
vegetables that had mysteriously grown overnight. As she skipped over
to join them, she smelt marvelous smells of ripe tomatoes. She leant
towards the tall vines and picked a juicy, bright red tomato and took a
huge bite. The juice dribbled down her chin and the pips splattered
onto her cheeks. The taste was indescribable; it was as if she could
taste the sun.

Carrie stood with her parents in the hay fields and watched in amazement
at the farm, which seemed to be brimming with life and vitality. Her
parents did not understand what had caused this miracle but Carrie knew
it was the fairies. They had been watching over her and her parents.
She spun around, her nightdress blowing in the wind and looked up the
sun himself; he winked at her and grinned. Carrie then knew that
everything was going to be fine.

Back in the kitchen, Carrie caught great wafts of scrambled eggs and
enjoyed the most delicious breakfast she had had in a long time. After
breakfast, Carrie got dressed and skipped merrily off to the end of the
hay fields, where she often sat and thought. She sat on the very same
stone that was made to fit her and looked around. Nothing. She screwed
up her eyes very tightly and wished and hoped for the fairies to come
back, but they didn’t. Carried then felt very sad, she had only wanted
to thank the beautiful creatures for saving her and her parents from
poverty. As she stood up and turned to walk back to the house, she
heard a faint whisper. She did not turn, but only stood very, very
still and did not make a sound. The noise came again and it sounded
very much like a voice. Carrie heard the fairies saying something to
her! She closed her eyes and waited in anticipation. She then heard
them say something in unison:

‘Faeries are the inner nature of the land and a reflection of the inner
nature of our souls...’

Carrie realized that the fairies had come to her because she had wanted
them to. She had wanted to help her parents so much, that she had
willed them to visit her and use their magical powers to save them. And
she had done it, on her own. The farm continued to prosper and Carrie
grew up to be a beautiful young lady and took over the farm from her
aging parents. She too, had exquisite children and loved them to
pieces. But she never, ever mentioned the fairies to anyone, and
neither must you!
