Father Timbertoe lead me out the door and stated "Alexis what's wrong
with you? You're acting strange. I'll let you off easy tonight. Tonight
you don't get a meal. But, one more time, I'll send you to your grave,
ok, go," he said pointing back to the kitchen. I gave him that evil
look and headed back into the kitchen.

" What happened?" asked April in a relief that I came back.

"I don't get a meal," I said making up my mind. No more I thought. It
was time I leave. Even if it meant leaving behind Otis. "Sorry April,"
I said swallowing, "I'm escaping tonight."

"Escaping," yelled April backing up while putting her hands over her
mouth in shock

" Shut-up," I snarled, " Father Timbertoe might hear you."

"Oh sorry," she said apologizing " but, but, how?" she asked moving her
black hair out of her face.

"With my boat," I said thinking extremely fast " you know, the one I
came in with."

"Where would you go?" asked April

"The Island were I came from," I said unleashing my dream into reality "
Ok, but I'm going too," she said becoming snobby.

"You are?" I asked. I thought she was strong, but I didn't think she had
the guts to go along with it.

"Yeah why not," she said.

"Ok, but I'm not responsible if you get killed on the way. I just wanted
you to know the risk we are putting on the line," I said.

"I'm not going to die. It's going to take more then a lousy Father to
kill me," she said becoming very cocky. " Is Otis coming?"

" No," I said wishing he was. He was right, he didn't produce a son, we
would be the last of the Sawannona. But I pushed it out of my mind. "Ok
lets get cooking. At nine a clock meet me here," I said attacking the
chicken we were cooking.

April was right on the dot with a small bag with her stuff.

The kitchen was dark, and the Father's closed it down half an hour ago.
I was nervous of being caught here. I would feel better if as soon as
we leave.

"Got your stuff?" I asked getting ready to walk out the door.

" Yes," replied April who seemed pretty nervous also. I was

ready to give the command that will change my life forever, to leave the
question, what if, in my mind forever.

" Get ready," I said opening the door that lead to the outside. I was
about to run when I heard a squeak outside the door. I froze. Great,
busted before I could even get out of the freaking kitchen.

"Alexis," said Otis from the shadows. A sigh of relief flew over me. It
was just my brother. " I want to go also." I nodded my head in
response, and the three of us took off towards the beach. I was so
relieved that Otis showed up, I didn't notice that Father Timbertoe was
watching us. He quickly grabbed Otis's foot and threw him on the ground
and quickly tackled him. I heard a sudden gasp, and looked behind me,
past April, to Otis being dragged away. I wanted to go back, but April
kept me going.

April pushed me into the boat with her following. I had tears pouring
out. April also had tears, but she didn't know the pain

that I was going through. I suddenly snapped and tried to go over the
side. I didn't want to leave the last Sawannona. He was right; he could
be the last Sawannona. I was going to jump over the side, but April
threw her arms around my waist and kept me going over. I fought her; I
wasn't go to let my friend leave the last of my family behind. But she
kept me in the boat, and finally got through to me, that I couldn't go
back. There was nothing I could do.

Four hours later, the sight of my Island, my home, came in sight. I had
flash backs of my pervious life on the Island. I saw the bodies of my
people, who were slaughtered, still lying on the ground. The image of
my mother being dragged behind, still with no peace in her mind that we
were, either Otis or I, were dead or alive. I suddenly sucked the whole
situation and thought. Hey, you did it. You may have lost all your
family members, but you made it to freedom. And you will carry on the
Sawannona's name. If I was to get married, I want the name

to stay in existence. I didn't want to end the Sawannona's off spring.

When we hit shore, I had finally decided to keep on with my life. So, to
start off with the rocky road, I will show April around. Even though
she hasn't said anything since the escape and the capture of Otis, I
saw a smile on her face.

" Welcome to my Island," I said throwing my arms in the air.

I showed her the camp where my people and I stayed, also the jail cell
where the slave traders kept me.

We were heading towards the beach, when we crossed a cave.

" Hey, lets go in, it'll give us some adventure," I said.

" But Alexis, we're already on an adventure," she said becoming
extremely nervous.

" Oh, come on. Nothing is going to happen," I said walking in. I
suddenly stopped when I heard voices in the back of the cave. " Shh," I
said to April, but she was already gone.

I heard footsteps behind me. I turned around to see a gun pointing to my
face.

" Don't move, and I'll let you live," he said in a very masculine voice.

He took me in the cave and placed me back inside another jail cell.

" Are, you the same girl I captured a month ago?" asked the man.

" I don't think so, my brother killed the man who captured me," I said
pulling on the bars to see if I could even shake them, I couldn't.

" I wasn't killed, only unconscious," he said smiling " you'll be worth
something."

April stopped about three minutes. She looked back. She couldn't let
Alexis take that punishment. She had to go back, she had to face her
fear. Alexis allowed her to escape; she had to do the same for her.

Alexis laid on her bed, she was going to be shipped back to the mission,
and probably end up dying. But she sat up when she saw April being
pulled in. Great! My hero.

I rolled my eyes when she came to the door. I was shocked when she
winked at me. April was thrown in.

Night had fallen, and the guards were all sleeping. I had been busy
wondering how April planed to get out. I smiled when she pulled out the
key. She had stolen it. We quietly opened the door, and walked out. But
on the way, we choked, and stabbed the remaining people, for April got
rid of some before she was captured.

" Great, job April," I said slapping her a high five. All of a sudden a
gun fired and April was shot in the arm. I ducked behind a tree and
watched in horror as my friend fell into a bush, followed by a sudden
scream. I looked over and saw a white man fall down dead. He was
already wounded. I ran over to the bush, but stopped short when I saw
it was hiding a cliff. I looked over and saw a cove with no sign of her
body.

I decided to stay, alone on the Island. What could I say, I was cursed?
Everybody I got close to died. I didn't belong with other people. I was
to stay alone.
