She just hoped that one day he would get the sack. When Rosie finally did get up, she showered, dressed and dragged her way to the bus stop. She was lucky. She nearly missed it, but fortunately, the driver knew her, so he pulled up next to the stop and waited till she got to the bus. When she got off at the stop she usually got off, she saw Ryan. ‘Oh, Hi, fancy seeing you again,' he said to her. ‘So what you up to?'' Rosie asked, wondering if he was still going to ask her out. ‘Just getting something from the shop before going to work.' She then left him and carried on to the shop. She knew that he was never going to ask her out. When the weekend came, Rosie was going to a party. She knew Emma would be there, but she wasn't going to take any notice of her. That night Rosie set off to the party feeling sad. She had no one to go with. She nearly braved it and was going to ask Ryan to accompany her. But she lost her nerve. Once inside she saw most of her friends, but no Emily. Emily must have got upset and decided not to come, but Lee was there, and how she hated him, but he came straight up to her. ‘What do you want?' she said to him. ‘Charming, I'm sure. Do you treat all your friends like that?' ‘Lee, you have never been a friend of mine and you know it. Where's that girlfriend of yours? My former best friend.' ‘If you must know, she is at home with the flu, and she told me you hung up on her on the phone. She's done nothing to you.' ‘You are a liar, Lee, telling me that Ryan was going to ask me out. I've seen him twice and he never said a word.' ‘Rosie, I know you don't like me, but I'm not lying. Ryan does want to ask you out. Ain't my fault he has bottled it.' The next morning as she was making her way to work, she was hoping she'd see Ryan again, but there was no sign. How disappointed she felt. When she got to work she ran into the manager. ‘I want a word with you, young lady. My office now!' But what had she done? She looked at her watch and knew she wasn't late. She just hoped she wasn't going to get the sack, but what for? You can't get sacked for doing anything wrong. But He wasn't like other managers. He seemed to be a law unto himself. ‘Right, take a seat,' he said to her After taking a seat, he looked at her. She knew this was it - she'd be looking for a new job and probably sooner than she thought. ‘Right, Miss Richardson,' he said to her. ‘It hasn't gone unnoticed that you are one of my best workers.' Was she hearing things? He liked no one but himself and he was saying that she was one of his best workers. But why? She soon found out when he started to lead her towards the shop floor. ‘I have a new trainee starting today,' he said to her as they were making their way, ‘And I want you to take him under your wing. I trust you totally, so I'm leaving him in your capable hands. Is that OK?' Of course, it was OK if he happened to be good-looking, but with her luck, he'd probably have spots and spent most of the weekend train-spotting just for fun, but when she got on the shop floor. She stared at him. He stared back, then she said: ‘Hi, Ryan. Fancy seeing you here!' Follow me on my website - kenmakepeace.com Tweet
