There are many things we, even Alice, don’t know about Wonderland. This may be one of them. | |||
Click here to read the first 75 lines of the story "He needs water, badly," the Walrus said, emphatically. Being an aquatic animal, himself, he was an expert on water. "The liquid under him must have dried up." Jeffrey tried to nod, but could only shake a few branches, he was so weak. "But how can we help?" the Carpenter asked. "Our hose doesn't reach nearly far enough. And digging a ditch through these hills would ruin them for aardvark polo." He shrugged in defeat, "All we have is one tin bucket." Upstairs, NT3N heard all this, had been listening all along on one side of his pane while talking to Olga on the other. And he had the answer. "Being a smart window, I have the answer to both your question and to the Carpenter's," he told Olga. "Come over and lay your ear on me and I'll whisper it to you." Olga didn't even wait to finish cleaning NT3N. She dropped her cloth, wanting to save Jeffrey -- whom she had spent many an hour reading under -- and ran down to tell the Carpenter her solution. Jeffrey, the thirsty date tree, was saved. The carpenter told all the bunny girls to go to the castle and drink as much lemonade as the cook could make. Then, while two carried the tin bucket back with extra lemonade for Jeffrey, the other bunny girls peed under the tree, all of them then going back for more. That was how young girls and one tin bucket, with the help of the Carpenter's long moist stream, saved a date tree. NT3N, freshly cleaned, watched it all unfold. He sighed, eagerly anticipating next Tuesday. The End. Tweet
